Interesting article in nuclear site clean up

I know someone who has been working on this place for a long time. Last time I was out that way last month, it was mentioned to me how basically they let the place slip and it's so f'ed up right now. He said they definitely need that money. I think the place has gotten to a point where they have no choice but to clean it up. Is there anything like this in ca?

I know a guy who has been working on and off there the last 30 years too, it is really a mess, thankfully California doesn't have anything near that bad.
Still I cringe whenever I hear politicians say we need to build more Nuclear power stations.
Until we figure out how to deal with the waste it just seems like a bad idea

Daaaaaaaamn, 2 BILLION dollars just to CLEAN IT UP!? Holy christ!
How much does it cost to build a nuclear facility? 2 Billion, even today, is A LOT of money... 2 Billion just to clean up a mess that we made is INSANE! Imagine where that 2 billion could be going if we didn't have to clean that nuclear waste up! It's a shame that our world has suffered so much because of man's greed and ignorance. Tisk tisk

Thing is, this 2billion still won't finish the job- that mess is going to be a project for the ages, I think it will still be contaminated long after humans no longer populate the planet.

Nice idea Paul, but in fact France has been copying our designs- they are all Westinghouse reactors and when it gets right down to it- they haven't figured out what to do with their waste either;
Nuclear waste is an enormously difficult political problem which to date no country has solved. It is, in a sense, the Achilles heel of the nuclear industry. Could this issue strike down France's uniquely successful nuclear program? France's politicians and technocrats are in no doubt. If France is unable to solve this issue, says Mandil, then "I do not see how we can continue our nuclear program."
