Info on Cell Phone Driving Laws
Well I was looking for some info on this and while looking through the CVC I noticed some stuff. First thing I noticed was an "effective" date as well as an "operative" date. I'm not sure what this means, maybe they can pull you over and give you a warning after the effective date and can fine you after the operative date? By the way, fines are $20 for the first time and $50 every time after that.
The other thing I noticed is as of July 1, 2011 the law shall be repealed and replaced with another law that looks that pretty much the same thing.
Also, this law does not apply to people making emergency hpone calls ("emergency" will most likely be up to the descrscion of the officer)
The CVC# for this law by the way is 23123

i hate when people question you in the car or on the other end of the line "why are you putting your phone down?" (as a cop rolls by)
"you dont have too, is it a law or something?"
Its like when people ask "does spelling count on this english test?" youre gonna do your best either way

well thats the point of my post kind of. Is it illegal yet? All of the articles (including ones on state government sites) list the law going into effect on July 1, 2008, so I'm trying to figure out the difference between "effective" and "operative." Since articles say it goes into effect 7/1/08 and the CVC says its operatve 7/1/08 I'm thinking "effect" is being misused by the media and general public. But either way, looks like theres still almost a year until it goes becomes operative or whatever

It has always been illegal.
It's called driving whilst distracted; eating & driving, shaving & driving, masturbating & driving, etc.
Because people have become sheeple, the laws have to spell out extactly what we can & can't do.
Common sense is neither.

Its like the old seatbelt law.. If your old enough to remeber....
They gave you a grace period before handing out tickets and pulling you over.. Its the informtive time... They make everyone aware then enforce it.....
Dont bag ont he cops on cell phones... He was ordering some crack or trying to get a hooker for the night.

YAY! instead of 20 year old girls driving jettas with their big sunglasses on talking on the cell phone, we will have 20 year old girls driving jettas with their big sunglasses on TEXTING!
I hate girls texting while driving, i usually get in front of them and slowly slow down to 50 if i can
