Maybe I didn't see it in earlier posts, but why in the **** do black people need to say "aks" when attempting to say "ask". How ****ing hard is it to use an "s" before a "k"?!
You can say "disk" can't you?! Like "Eh man, I just stole that fool's compact disk!"

You had to play the race card didntcha lol
why wouldn't "they" say "Eh man, I just gave that fool a compact disk!"
and no, they say compact diks
some black people choose to sound black, just as some gay people choose to sound gay (valley girl + chainsaw deep voice)
There was a time in middle school where every other word out of my mouth was dude. Its whatever environment youre in.
Its a way for people to not blend with others. Our melting pot hasnt melted yet i guess.

My two current pet peeves:
1.) people interchanging "mid-east" and "middle east" when talking about the area between Asia and Africa.
2.) people who say, "and such" or "what have you" at the end of every other sentence in an apparent attempt to sound more intelligent.

LOL Think about Bay SLANG... ie: HELLA.
I have to admit Bay Area has probably the worst english in the US. People talk slang intentionally around the bay area. And it's quite interesting because it's common amongst all kinds of people, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, different ethnic groups, etc. I go to UCSC and there's quite a number of socal kids and they automatically think that when bay kids talk, they're automatically "ghetto". Bay slang's ubiquity is just another component of "bay area culture" if you will.

I am all about this thread. I even send text messages using proper English. My Mother is a linguist and an English prof; growing up, using poor grammar at home was considered worse than swearing. Oh teh interweb though...ne thing goes. (Though even on here I tend to type properly.)

Grammar and spelling are way overrated. Whenever I travel to a non-English speaking country, I'm sure that I completely butcher the native language. Frankly, I'm happy if I can understand people and they can understand me. Language is just a method of communication, as long as you get your ideas accross, who cares.

Decent spelling and grammar ensures you aren't misunderstood, if you're even understood at all. No one on here is demanding perfect English, but if it looks like you didn't even bother seeing that whatever you wrote even makes sense, some people probably wont even read it.
If English is your second or third language, then it's 100% forgivable. But when English is your first or only language, it's just irritating to see people screw it up.

Oh noooos, the spelling ***** are after me. Heheh, just joking with ya.
If ppl dont wanna read my post cause my spelling isn't perfect. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. What I dont get is how they can possibly tell if my spelling is incorrect unless they start reading my post. There seems to be a logical contradiction there.
My English isn't perfect, it is actually my second language. In college, I had quite a few professors who had sub-standard English. Some were very famous researchers in their fields. If I had arrogantly dismissed what they had to say because of how they said it, I think the one who would have missed out would have been me.

Actually, one of them had a skating accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down and with a speech impediment. English was his only language.
Once when I was younger, I volunteered at an nursing home. There was an old man there who grew up in the south. He wasn't well educated, and didn't speak what most people considered proper English. We talked about race in this country. He told me about growing up in the south as a black man during the 40s, then watching his world change again and again slowly to what it is today. I learned a lot from that guy.
All I'm saying is, what matters most to me is what people have to say and not necessarily how they say it.
It is a pet peeve for some people, but not for me. What is a pet peeve for me, is when people use "grammar" and "proper English" as a way to subtly discriminate. For those people, "proper English" is nothing more than a facade for their racism. (I'm not saying any one here is like that cause i don't know any of you, but trust me, there are people out there like that.)
