I'm surprised there isn't a Martha Stewart thread, yet.

**** got off with 5 months in jail, 5-months of "home detention", and a $30,000 slap on the wrist.

"I'm not afraid. Not afraid whatsoever."

Duh, you're going to country club jail for like 3 hours... whose's there to be afraid of?

Actually, I bet she could hold her own... didn't she beat the ish out of her ex-husband?

I was actually thinking about that. Was talking to my coworker about it.

Now I am as big a fan to martha as I am to say.....bill gates (I am on a mac right now). But still man...did she really deserve 5 months. Seems a bit extreme to me. I mean when you have the kinda cash and fame she has, you run in high circles. TONS of insider trading goes on constantly. Shoot I run in broke *** circles and I tell people I know when something is going on with my company. Difference is with them they have a lot more money invested so a lot more weight moves around. But still...she made like..what $45k or something? That's like 2 days of work for her.

They are just making an example.

I mean who's the bigger crook...her..that effected no one at all. Or those enron bastards. Or grey davis and the power companies. They effected thousands of people. They ruined the future of their employees..costing them their retirements. They put our state into mass debt. Etc. But no..... no wait.... They are republican backers and have friends in low places.

Had I wouldn't call 5 months a slap on the wrist.... She didn't mess with anyone else. All hell broke loose with that company.

I mean seriously. If you and a buddy are drinking a beer and you got $500 in stock in his company (her amount probably equates to even less than that) and your buddy goes...man. We just found out that they are gonna lay off 10,000 people. I'm freaked out man. I think you'd probably sell your stock on the internet that night. That's pretty much what she did.

Now if all of them had gotten together and formulated a plan to sell at certain times to minipulate the market and damage many many other people....that's part of what caused the great depression/stock market crash.... then yeah...throw the chick in the slammer for a couple years.

Maybe I don't know that much...but 5 months for what she did seems about as stupid to me and putting some guy caught with an bag of weed in jail for 6months.

She was not being charged with insider trading.
She was charged with several counts of obstruction of justice.

yeah she has been strongly influenced by the governator...she's gone crazy in the face of jail time. Watch her. Watch her closely. She build some explosives out of bed sheets, orange peals, milk cartons and soap and water. Look out for her..she's like the made scientist, only with less style sense.

The insider trading charge was dropped, she was sent to jail for lying about it. I just hope that Ken Lay gets at least 30 years, hopefully life for what he did to Enron. Actuallty better then that, take all his money and assets and distribute it evenly between all Enron employees he affected and let him fend for himself with no money.

When he goes to jail he should be made to use one of those stationary bikes to power anything electrical. That would be poetic justice.

she got off light. if it had been a person who stole a $50000 car they would have been in the clink for several years for grand theft auto. but because she's a celebrity and white collar crime is often put up with (example: enron) in american society, the sentence was not so harsh.

whatta *****

first time auto theives RARELY to never do that much time. If it was strong arm that's another story. But it's not.

You steal a car you usually get time served while waiting for trial and a couple years of probation.....sometimes a couple months. Seriously man... she didn't get off easy. celebrity or not...
