yeah i know what u mean man! my car was in the shop for a few days and i missed it so much. your gonna go to the davis welcome days? i wanted to go but..nah ive seen davis already. maybe ill meet you when we do go to davis, although it is a big school so we'll seee. what did u hear about the whole parking situation and how its hard? ask the people at davis (staff and faculty) about the parking situation. do they pick applicants for the parking spots based on need and a lottery system? hopefully not a lot of incoming freshmen drive =\

if you go to ucsc. you can park outside my house which is just a bus ride away(10 minutes if that). if you go to ucd i cant help you i let my friend with a evo do it last year. Also there is places down town that you can pay to park per quarter..thats what i did. It was nice just kept a car cover over the car and it kept nice just a thought.

8 years ago.. (holy cow! am I that old now??!) when I used to go to USD, I had a few friends from Lowell and other schools park their cars by Segundo Area... Across from the rec Hall. Anyway.. they Drove BMW M3s and 240s and other cars and they would sometimes get find their alarms going off. It might get you a little paranoid if you have your car there. They were pretty paranoid. Every other minute, they'd be lookin out the window to see if their cars were still there. Ahhh.. good times. haha

Realize you're lucky for going to a school that'll give you parking at some point. I applied all 4 years I was at UCLA, I lived off campus and had a job, and still never was allowed to even buy a parking pass.

that's not entire true. i had my car parked at the parking lots near Tercero when i was a freshman at Davis. my sis had her car when she was a freshman at the UCLA dorm. the recent increase in freshman class size, especially with Davis wanting to admit more students, prevents UCD from allowing dorm parking permits. it wasn't always that way.
so back to being on topic...keep in mind that your car will be subjected to bad drivers and horrible parking jobs at any campus parking lot. my car at the time was subjected to a hit & run while parked at the Regan parking lot.
about those A/B/C permits, here's the link to your friendly neighborhood TAPS parking :

My college lets me have a permit But we only have 1800 people, too. My car has been broken into twice, which kind of sucks, but it happens. I live 2 hours away, and trust me, I'd never give up my car. It's also nice to be able to get off campus to do stuff, you know, go to movies, nice-er restaurants, etc. Have you looked into private parking garages? Don't know if there are any in that area, but like a garage that has a monthly/yearly rate?

I graduated from UCD in '99 but i'm guessing the only things that changed with parking are the prices.. :P When I was there, I remember paying ~400$ but don't remember if it was per quarter or per year.. think it was per year tho.
But from what I remembered.. A was for faculty only but in general, the spaces were closer to campus and you could park in the C slots. C was the general one for students and most times (and you could park in the visitors spots using the same permits unlike some REALLY EXPENSIVE College in Stanford, CA that I graduated from) , I had to park out in the boondocks to get to Bainer Hall. I don't think there was parking for dorms back then when I started as a freshman but I used a bike all the time from Ryerson Hall (then Tercero) so it really didn't matter.
Regan?? Geez they still haven't demolished that place yet?

I think Regan is still around; there's a new dorm behind it, facing 5th/Russell.
I lived at Tercero as well -- H building, or what was then the Gaia Bldg (for outdoors program).
You know that little parking lot b/t Mrak and the Library, right next to the Performing Arts Bldg? I used to park there with my A permit. Having that permit was a godsend!
What was your major, Tim? I started at Davis as a freshman in '95.

I always avoid that by putting it in a plastic insert and have it by the front or rear windshield, which ever requested. I've never gotten a ticket with that.
