actually hard to say... maybe because I work in cubical... i don't really care for an office, it's nice, but no big deal to me... once I am 'in the zone' working, surrounding doesn't really bother me. I rather bring home the bacon than stress over the money. So stress after work or during work? I pick during work... but that's just me...

Then again, that's why I make my own path and started my own business as well...

well, he also didn't reply to my PM the other day, after I met with him, to see how he's doing

i voted for 2.

i recently took a job because it was higher paying (same debate as yourself), and i regret it every day. i wish i could go back to my old company now. seriously, i hate my day at work, but i know it was my fault, and now i am in the process of trying to get out.

lesson learned: dont go somewhere with money being your main reason.

I would not be able to pick just on those two factors alone (money vs environment)...Are they important? Yes. Are there even more important factors? Absolutely (at least for me).

I personally also look at the following factors (in no particular order)...

1) What are the growth, promotion and raise opportunities within the company?
2) How stable is the job and company?
3) How would either job (experience, projects, company image, etc) fit into your greater career plan/outlook?

If it is the very last job you will have, that option #2 is probably better since you would have to put up with the environment for the rest of your life. However, if you think you will switch in the future, having a higher base salary (and whatever other tangible/intangible benefits) can possibly make a huge difference in the future since that will be used as you negotiating base. Same as working in a tougher environment, you can demonstrate to your next employer your ability to work in adverse conditions and negotiate for more money/responsibility.

Like I said, I do not think the factors your giving would be enough for me to make a decision...you need to figure out what your long terms goals are, how these fit into them and what you are comfortable with. Good luck!

From first hand experience.

I had to choose between a long commute, no time with my girlfriend and most likely an eventual end of the relationship and me falling into corporate cubicle hell and a near 50% pay cut, less commute, time for the lady, happier...etc.

I chose to take a $35-40,000 pay cut. I ended up getting laid off and being out of work for 8 months. But in the end I got a job I like a lot better and I got married. I'm happier. I'm back in Santa Cruz. I can't buy a house or cover $300 bar tabs like it's nothing anymore but it was the right choice.

NEVER choose money. The best thing it can lead to is more money. Choose happiness and pray the money shows up sooner or later. Money can go away at a moments notice. Trust me.

more than enough. if your in a 2 income house and one of you is making that much you should have NO problems being comfortable. All about self control and living within your means.

Job 2 hands down. On average you spend more time at work than at home awake. May as well be happy. I had a similar situation choosing to either be a Cop or a civilian advisor to the military for less pay. I chose less pay because I liked the Job a lot more.

I'd like to apply for the $90K job please. It's more than I make now from my cubicle. So it sounds WIN WIN to me.

I thought I was doin OK and then your example of "low pay" is more than I make

this is the best advice. just work hard at what you love doing, and the success will come sooner or later. its all about patience.
