If you were offered 2 jobs at the same exact time, which would you take?
Lets say that you were laid off your previous job about 6 months ago and have been searching your *** off without any luck, then all of the sudden you are offered two similar jobs, but as similar as the work is, the jobs are VERY differnt from each other, each has its plus and minus. Out of the two jobs below, which one would you choose and explain why.
1. The first choice is a 30 min commute with low traffic, salary, normal hours (8-5). You'd be doing computer work that you are very qualified for. You'd get basic benefits, and The salary would be $120,000 a year. Sounds great right? Well, here's the catch. You would be working in cubical hell and a very "office space"-like environment. The people you work for expect one thing from you, and that is to work your *** off and get things done. The management there dont care about you, all they care about is that you finish your job at any cost (even if you have to work 40 hours straight). To top it all off, you work in a huge room that has cubicles from corner to corner, the room is always warm from no A/C, and all you hear all day is people typing/coughing/sneezing/etc.
In short, you'd be making more money then you ever have, but you'd have to work in cubical hell.
2. Job number two is also a 30min commute with little to no traffic, it is also salary, normal hours (8-5), and you'd be doing similar work like in the first job. The salary isn't exactly the same as the first job however, instead of making 120k a year, you'd be making $90k a year. You'd get the same basic benefits. Thats not the only difference. Instead of working in cube hell, you'd actually get your own little office that you can customize, and even get your own thermostat! The building in which you'd be working in is a very modern looking building with all sorts of colors and interesting art everywhere (Vs the white walls of job 1). The people you'd be working with are far more relaxed and don't micromanage you like in the first job.
In short, the work you'd be doing is pretty identical, but the workplace at job #2 is leaps and bounds beyond #1, not only do you get an office, and get to work in a beautiful modern building, but the people you work for are for more lax as they believe in the philosophy "Treat your employees well and they be more productive and do a better job". 30k difference is still 30k!
How about it guys, which would you go for? Would you go after the money or would you go after happiness in the workplace?
Ive worked for both types of companies, several times each, and with that experience under my belt, I'd choose number 2 without hesitating! Its amazing what people will do for money! Is 30k more (before tax) worth being absolutely miserable every single day? It gets to the point where you don't want to wake up because you dread work... If I have a choice, I'll tale that pay cut ANY day of the year... I'd even take a bigger pay cut! It's soooo awesome wen you work at a company that you actually enjoy working for. Thats just me though... Money isnt everything to me, I know some of you are not like me though, so lets hear it!

i'd pick job 2. $90k is nothing to be upset about, plus you enjoy your job **** yes....
though i would pry take the first job that was offered to me, so if that meant job 1 thats what i would take, you would never know if job 2 was around the corner.

Although you can do some cool **** with cubes...
the part that got me was the modern building part and the thermostat... I hate working in a place where I can't set the temperature...

Take the job that you'd enjoy. You really won't notice the difference in pay. People always spend what they make anyways. If you count the extra hours you'd work at the higher paying job, the $$ per hour wouldn't be that great.

I'd take the job that would allow me the time to post up a Mt. Hammy vs. Novato poll for the meet this summer, instead of the one that wouldn't, so I'd wait until the last minute when one isn't available, then fall back on the other.

Having an office now, I can say that it really doesn't mean anything to me anymore. I could just as easily go back to a cube. The 30k difference is big though, if I planned not to stay there for more than a year or two, I'd take the stress and more money. If I was looking for a company to work for long term, I'd take the easier job. I'd be willing to put up with the added stress for a while, but not too long a while.

It doesn't sound like this makes sense, but money can be overrated. Do you think the 30k a year can buy you the happiness, "good feeling", freedom, etc you'll get everyday from job 2? I doubt it. This is easy. Is 30k REALLY gonna change your life for the better? or is working at a job you actually like going to change it?
In other words, will Job 2 let you live the life you want, whether or not your getting REAL PAID? Or will you be getting REAL PAID but not able to spend any quality time with your life, friends, family, etc?
