Another vote for the Remington 700. I've had the same one since I was a teenager and the 308 is a great do anything round.

Does your friend want a Bolt action or Semi? If I were to go with the Bolt action. The Remington 700 Tactical chambered in the .223 or .308 would be a good one. I have the .223 and love it. As for Semi I would like to say your suggestions are really good or go with even a Mini 14.

Big 5 actually running a special on the rem 700 chambered in 300 win mag with optics like 350 but that the going rate on that rifle. No bells and whistles.

300 win mag is a great round to hand load as well. Due to its rarity and price.

He wants a Semi-Auto, which is why I suggested getting the M1A as it's Magazine fed.


The Remington 700 is a great choice that I also brought up to him but he wants a magazine fed gun for quicker re-loads, and well, the coolness of having detachable mags.
