If you had never been to the USA and had 2 weeks to explore ONE state...
Lets say you were a foreigner from Africa or somewhere that isn't 1st world and had two weeks to go explore one state in the USA... The catch is that you have to stick with a single state and you can't cross any borders. You can do whatever your fairly decent budget allows you to do, but you'd have to plan your trip based off of visiting one state, where would you go, and what would you plan for your itinerary?
Lets try to pretend that we don't already live in CA and lets try not being bias at all... Try to put yourself in the shoes of someone visiting the USA for the first time ever.
Summery: What state would you choose, and what would you plan on doing while in the state? Try to add details, like what time of year you'd go, what your interests are and why would do choose what you did.

California. No doubt. Other states have maybe 1 attraction at most.
To see: Redwoods, Yosemite, maybe JM Trail, SF, LA, Coast/PCH trip, SD, beaches, *****es. CALI WEED.
I would travel 'round mid spring, early summer.
I'm kind of an outdoors guy, but enjoy city life.
Would try to catch LB Grand Prix (or some early summer formula D), Lakers playoffs, try to catch an Irwindale drag night, Cars and Coffee in Irvine, Six Flags, and some local car meets, all the while mixed in with lots of bar hopping/drinking, maybe a few clubs, then shoot up via 1/101 to the bay. See SF (park, bridge, local landmarks) and the check out all the things here (Billetproof is around that time of year I think?) and round it off with a trip up to the Redwoods national park, or Yosemite (which is a ***** to book, and its super allergy season during that time)
Damn now I feel like brucelee for overtyping and nobody will read my post :/

Delaware.
Depends on what the person wants to do, but the obvious choices are:
California
Hawaii
Alaska
New York
Florida
Then maybe something like:
Vermont
Massachusetts
Illinois "I Hate Illinois *****"
Missouri
Texas
Colorado
Oregon
Washington
What does the person like to do or want to see as each state offers something different.

I've been to around 10 different states, and Cali is by far the best. We have the bay area, LA, San Diego, the Sierras, Yosemite, Napa and everything in between. Pretty much everyone on here is within an hour of some great drives, whether for fun or for the sights. You get all kinds of weather and can always find a good place to be. We have the most professional sports teams in centrally located areas. Not to mention Disneyland, Universal Studios, a few Six Flags, Great America, and Knott's Berry Farm. If you want sports to do, sports to see, theater, music, technology, the outdoors, or nightlife its all right here. And it is some of the best in the world. The most Americana you can get in a single state I think.

I'd probably rank them something like this:
California without hesitation would rank first- just for the scope and diversity, I don't think there is another state apart from Alaska that would keep you busy checking stuff out and staying interesting for all of 2 weeks.
My second rank suggestion would depend on time of year, summer- Alaska is really awesome, without doubt, but rather limited in what you can get to, especially if not there at the height of Summer
Winter- my #2 selection would probably be Utah, if you like the winter sports, its got those, if you don't- there is still the southern deserts and canyons.
Then after those;
Oregon,
Washington,
Arizona,
Colorado,
Montana,
Wyoming,
Wisconsin
anyplace I'd list after that...?- they'd probably have more fun staying in their own country

While trying to remain as objective as possible, I'm going to have to say California, too. One thing that most people don't think about is how big our state is. There is just so much variety in things to see from big cities, to attractions, to natural wonders. Try driving six hours in any direction in any other state.

Two weeks would probably say New York, you could spend 2 weeks in New York City alone and only just be scratching the surface. The Infrastructure there also allows you to never have to drive to get anywhere. The longstanding history there will also be easily accessible and more abundant.
California is great but comparatively everything is very spread out and requires driving a car under your own power. You usually spend more time traveling than experiencing things. California beaches are nothing special when compared with other locations around the world and don't make up for the other lackings.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Nevada yet. I'd have to say my first choice would have to be California. Two weeks is enough time to travel up and down and experience everything. Second choice would have to be Nevada for Las Vegas and third would be Colorado, fourth New York.

Good point- it really depends mostly on what the visitors interests are in, if it's history then New York or Pennsylvania would have more for them than California, if they prefer gambling and glitz- 'Vegas baby!, and if they have a fetish for fields of wheat- Kansas if they like old people and Cubans Florida, etc.

I would say Las Vegas Nevada or New York, just because it is really different for people in third worlds. I'm sure some have seen snow, the ocean water, and bushy forests. If I was from a third world I would want to see the statue of liberty walk around the big apple and maybe a Yankees game, or experience Nevada with its Hoover dam, las Vegas casinos big *** hotels, gamble a little the shows, the bright lights at night, there is lots to do maybe not a lot like here in California but you will not experience nothing like las Vegas here in Cali.

CA has the beaches, the mountains, the forests, the desert, SF, LA, etc etc etc....
If you want a versatile place to visit you really can't go wrong with CA.
