ha i saw the title and was gonna say zatoichi, but you got that already
when i was younger and visiting my grandparents in japan, i used to watch this show called "Abarenbō Shōgun", best samurai content ever haha, not bloody or overly done but the show was awesome, main guy - ken matsudaira is one of the most know dudes in japan and i still watch it when i can in japan..
im not sure they have english subtitles if you dont speak japanese though
edit: random crazy news, ken matsudairas wife supposedly commited suicide last week in tokyo

You can't go wrong with Kurosawa movies: 7 samurai, ran, rashamon, throne of blood.
also a fan of Samurai Spy by Shinoda.
The Samurai trilogy is great too.
I am a fan of a lot of the older samurai movies. Just look up ones on Criterion Collection. Can't go wrong with those.
Just don't watch The Last Samurai. You will get sad in your heart.

+1 for "Twilight Samurai" and "Seven Samurai". Also check out the "Samurai Trilogy", "The Hidden Blade", the new "Zatoichi" with Beat Takeshi, "Rashomon", "Yojimbo", "Ran", "Throne of Blood", and the "Lone Wolf and Cub" series.
And for a twist, check out "Samurai Fiction", "Azumi" (technically a ninja movie though), and "Samurai Resurrection" (if you played "Samurai Showdown", you know the famous storyline haha).
That's all I can think of for now.
