I need to purchase a few bullet proof vests

No it is not for vendors to use due to customer complaints ( hard to be a vendor nowadays lol.)

Anyone know where I can get good pricing new or used ? I need one unit to take back with me in Feb 1 and depending on the quality, they may purchase a few.

My brothers work requires them to wear one and the work issued ones are heavy and not trust worthy. He basically needs one that will work coz you get one chance at this so why use a less quality issued. Philippines is a crazy place with lots of assorted weapons.

I will need one vest for now so any hook up's will best.

Thank you in advance

Gino

bulletproof vests comes in various levels.

level I through level III-A are for "handgun" rounds. these are the soft material (kevlar, etc)

level III and IV are the hard material stuff, steel or ceramic. IV handles "hotter" rifle rounds than III.

other considerations, is under or over clothing. III and IV are almost all over clothing.

now the next thing is exportation rules. since you specifically mentioned taking them back to the motherland, you may want to ask your vendor as to what the current laws are...

go pick up a copy of GUN DIGEST, SHOTGUN NEWS or GUN LIST at walmart (magazine section) and look through their ads. that's where i constantly see them.

the higher the threat level, the higher the price... (duh... )

thank you and all that info really helps,

I was just on AIM with rtakuma (ray T) and he did mention the calibers and we have agreed that vests for rifle rounds cost way more than low powered pistols.

I can get the Phil. Goverment to get a release letter/clearance to get the units over or out of the country if need be no worries there.

I just need to get the hook up where if anyone knows anyone local so I dont have to deal with the internet shopping and catalogs coz I have bad experiences with them in the past when ordering bulk and hate to look up all my dad's old friends in LA.

http://www.galls.com/ here is a start I guess but any more will help

well... you can to consider. what is the most common firearm in the PI?

probably the AK rifle variant, unless you are dealing with the common thugs in the cities and downtown where handguns probably rules.

on a side note, i was watching a rerun of NUMB3RS on cbs as i was viewing this thread and it showed a CHP killed by a AR rifle. THIS WAS A FICTIONAL TV SHOW.

anyways, just about every cop in this country wears a vest to stop the common handgun round.

if price is an issue, $300-400 for a III-A versus a $1000 or so for III/IV... is someone's life worth it?

as for getting used ones, careful. there was a manufacturer of soft body armor that recently were found to have failed after months of usage. so BE VERY careful when some deals are too good to be true...

granted III/IV have to be bulky due to their protection properties, what does your brother expect while on duty?

All body armor becomes useless after taking about 2 shots in the same area anyways. And most people shooting at you aren't just gonna shoot once. I suggest your brother invest in a good rifle and some running shoes and stick with the vest he's got.

I would suggest studying these rules before needing them:

Rules for a Gunfight
Anonymous
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.

2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap - life is expensive.

3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movements are preferred.)

6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.

7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.

9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket."

10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. Have a plan.

13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work.

14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

16. Don't drop your guard.

17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.

18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.)

19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

25. You can't miss fast enough to win

Thanks, I will check them out on Monday.

Everyone I talked to today has favorites so I have decided to just get the unconcealed type vest. If I was the one shooting towards them, I would at least aim for the one who doesnt seem to wear a vest period. If my bro gets hit it will be a quick one due to head shot.

I will just buy him the best there is and let his co workers spend their own and look for it themselves. I love my bro and if I get him a good one, at least I know he has a chance.

thank you again
