I need the baic help!!! ASAP
ok well i'm selling my car and I already found a buyer and everything. But the guys parents want to smog the car even though it's not needed since the car is not even 4 years old yet. So to complete the sale I need to smog the car to keep the parents happy since they are paying for the car. My car has a 20g turbo on it right now. Basically what i'm doing is putting the stock dp back on and switching my map back to a safe 91 basemap and turning off the meth. I think my car should pass smog because I use to have a turbo civic that passed smog. It had the full greddy kit on it. So I don't see why my turbo car that just has a bigger turbo would fail especially if I put the cats back on. Well if you have experience with this I need help. From my past experience I know a wrx with a vf30/34 can pass smog with the stock dp. OH and one last question if i happen to fail the smog does anything bad happen. Since I'm only doing the smog for the hell of it. Technically smog is not needed for the first 6 years of my cars life.

only a stock turbo can legally pass smog on a subaru there are no ARB approved aftermarket kits.its modified emissions related components.
your registration can be suspended for non-resolved fail.
some shops will not smog your car for the hell of it if they are trying to keep out of trouble as the BAR considers it the same as a shop selling you a alternator when theres nothing wrong with it.
<------smog tech
cheers

^^^so even though i'm not due for a smog I can basically get my registration all screwed up because I fail? ARgh the whole point of me selling my car was to sell it with everything on it. I don't want to smog the car and fail just to end up putting it back to stock. After all the hard work done to my car to be ruined because of that....My car runs great the way it is I don't want to ruin it by putting the car back to stock for failing smog. If It was really time to smog my car then i'd put it back to stock. But doesn't even need to be really done till 2010. I still love my car a lot, and don't want to see it stock anytime soon. I would rather sell the car to someone who knows the dmw rules of not needing to smog the car because it's still 4 years and newer. Then to parents that want to smog the car for no reason. I dunno just getting frustrated I guess. The whole appeal of the car is for all the great work done to it. If it's stock then it's so....I dunno normal.....

only if its older than 4 years (or new to the state),less than that you pay a transfer fee,to the dmv no test

i understand your frustration and you really are better off selling it to someone who absolutly knows what they are getting into if you want it to remain modded
another thing to consider is say you sell to the guy with the **** parents and he gets pulled over and a modified em ticket, garunteed the parents are going to be a pain in your backside one way or another

I'm in the same boat as well...I want to sell my car but I doubt it will pass smog. I don't really have the time to part out the car and put it back to stock.
Also...if the CPU was reflashed wouldn't the OBDII conection show "not ready"?
I had a friend have that problem after he went back to stock. He was unable to smog the car because they couldn't connect to his computer...it would always show "not ready". He ended up trading the car in.
