I keep smelling gasoline + bad mpg =Any Ideas.
I have checked everything I could possible think of, Why do I smell gasoline everytime I turn off my car.
Also my gas mileage has severely tanked, I went from 210ish a tank to 140ish. Been noticing it for 2 weeks now. I can not figure out what it is coming from.
2006 WRX wagon. 57k miles.
SPT intake,
AP v.1 stg1 ots map,
spt exhaust.
These are the only mods I see relevent
I haven't done any modifications in the last 6 months.
I have checked gas cap to make sure its tight, I have no cel. I even checked for cel's incase some how my CEL wasnt working. I checked the gas cap gasket. Its in good shape. I checked under the car no leaks. Smell is coming from the outside of the car, from either the back or sides, more potent on the gas tank fill side. Def not coming from engine bay. i dont have any bov or anything.
I dont smell it when the car is idiling, i only smell it about a minute after I have stopped and turned my car off. It doesnt matter if I drove it or or just let it idle. After a while though the smell goes away, mostly when its cool down. And i can smell it in inside just a bit. Not sure if the smell is slightly originating from inside, or if its just wafting in.
Has anyone had this happen or have any idea what is going on?
Thanks,
Ryan

if it's not coming from engine bay, possibly something to do with the gas tank itself?
Gas evaporates and doesn't necessarily have to leak right? But that's weird how you only smell it when the car is running... hmm. In that case maybe the lines that the fuel travels from tank to engine, because I'm assuming those lines aren't used when the car isn't running.

Take it to LIC and have them do the 60k since its highly unlikly there is a DIY fix if you've checked everything. Also 60k service says to replace the fuel filter and inspect the fuel line IIRC

I had a small leak from a fuel line under my inlet for awhile, took me a day or 2 to find it, all it was was a loose line, had to pull the inlet and tighten it then it was fine, also not sure how you drive but I've notices my milagw go down as well, I think it could be from "driving" In the rain.... If you catch my drift... Ha
