I have a question about being pulled over...
Today when I was driving through Milpitas I noticed a Honda Ridgeline, totally unmarked, pulling someone over (had dash lights). The person pulled over without any question.
Do you have to pull over when it's an unmarked car? In the news they always tell you that you don't have to pull over unless its a fully marked car (for traffic violations).
Whats the deal here? Who's right?

turn on blinker. slow down. if you have phone call local department. pull over at a place with people, and if at night, a well lit area. tell department on phone you're getting pulled over by unmarked car. and where you are.
keep engine running until told to turn it off. If they do, request/ demand proof of authority. let them know you are on the phone with their department, and that you feel uncomfortable pullng over for an unmarked car.
If they are a real cop they will understand, if they are bad guys they will book.
note: If they are for real, they will show you their ID card, not a badge.

...or you could just find your closest mtn road and loose him?
or find a cloverleaf section of freeway and loop each 270' turn until you loose him.

but in court, worst case scenario, you would tell the judge it was an unmarked vehicle and i wasnt doing anything wrong, chances are youd be safe in that situation if they did track you down by your plate.
the only reason an unmarked would pull you over is if they were tipped off by a civilian that you happen to have the same looking car as a drug dealer or thief...once youre in court they realize your not the guy theyre looking for so...

i've been pulled over by an unmarked Honda Accord out in dublin...i was circling around a neighborhood with 2 friends looking for a party we were heading too. the guy flashed his lights, but i was like, **** that, it's an accord. then he got on his speaker, told me to pull over, so then i did. guy came out, he was fully suited like any police officer. he pulled me over cause i was 'acting suspicious in a neighborhood that had complaints about robberies in the last couple of weeks.' oh, that and my car's blinker was too fast (had one out in the front). anyway, he just pulled us over, asked if we drank or anything. told him we were lost, gave him the name to the street, and the guy was nice enough to direct us towards the street (or see if our story held true.)
that's my experience...not sure if it'll be of any help, but i thought it was worth sharing

yeah cops in unmarked cars wouldnt bother with minor stuff, i doubt they'd bother writing you up for a blinker when theyre supposed to be out looking for real problems.
honda accord? damn thats a first
