I have an eye sight question for you guys/gals with glasses/contacts.

I don't have vision insurance so I come to you guys for advice...

All my life I've had perfect vision, and even scored higher/better then 20/20 on my eye tests back in the day... My vision is fine in every regard except for when I read things online.

When I look at text on sites like this one I have a hard time looking at the text without blinking about 40 times before reading a word... Its not blurry or anything, the best way I can describe it is by trying to imagine those annoying spam ads with ridiculous colors that make the actual text hard to read... Almost like it hurts my eyes to try to read text.

I'm usually fine if it's one line of text, but anything more than one line and I have to highlight the text in order to be able to read it without it hurting.

Its not all online text, mainly message boards with white/whiteish backgrounds.

Sorry for the newbie vision question but this has been bugging me for months now and I thought it was my monitor, but I've tried several and all of them cause the same problem.

Also, If I read something for more then about an hour I get INTENSE headaches and I never really get headaches... pain is typically around my temple area.

I figured some of you would know what to do... My wife worked for a doctor (vision) for quite a few years and she's told me what she thinks it is, I want to see if your guys opinions are on the same level.

<------ If I couldn't highlight text I probably wouldn't post NEARLY as much due to the whole headache thing.

(I know you're all thinking "How do I disable brucelee's ability to highlight text?".)

My eyes have been jacked since 3rd grade. Definitely sounds like a vision problem given that your eyes are straining hence the temple pain and the constant blinking. Try some reading glasses, you can get them at the 99 cent store and see if they help.

Pwhahha...you will only need to use them when reading hehe...I'm thinking your starting to develop farsightedness (if there is a word). My dad was the same, had 20/20 all his life now has to use bifoculs.

what browser are you using?

IE7 uses a diff way to render text than any of the mozilla ones...

also, increasing the font size helps...

I'm using firefox.

Yeah, increased font, as much as I hate the way it looks, sounds like my only choice at the moment.

PS: I'm 28 too and this didn't start until recently.

Try using Opera. My eyes were hurting using Firefox, and for some reason, it doesnt with Opera.

Also, try changing the theme, maybe different color themes will help you out

PS: Is there anyway to make the text more bold then then standard font style? Can you change fonts all together? I'm not up on my font knowledge which is sad because my wife knows every font on the face of the earth (no joke). You can just point at a font and she'll name it, its kind scary actually. Maybe for sexy time I can dress up as a big letter in some font she likes...

Give yourself about 12-15 more years... I was like that too- in the middle of a family with near-sightedness and far-sightedness but gifted with really exceptional vision- until about a year ago, when I started having to blink to focus like Daniel describes to where now my arms aren't long enough to read most menus in restaurants.

I'm OK with computer monitors for the most part, but the self illumination goes a long way to help...and still great with road signs and such, just con't do the close-in assembly work like I used to.
