I don't go out of my way to listen to mix tapes these days.
And if you think he's doing what people want then you're wrong. People don't know what they want. They listen to what they're told to. They're sheep. There is a formula and they eat it up like sheep. The music industry is all bout finding the a formula and running it dry.
Turn on the radio and you'll hear the same 10 songs AT LEAST 15 times in a 24 hour period. Those songs pay to play. People hear stuff enough and they like it. The new usher stuff is a perfect example. It's garbage but it gets played enough and you start to bob your head and low and behold it's the number 1 record. Hell the new jb "hit" is just a PG13 version of the whisper track.
So yes I agree with you about him feeding what people want to hear but I disagree with the angle. He's feeding the public what the record company is telling him to feed to the public.
He could very easily write about something worth while and sell just as many records. It's a matter of being lazy. Anyone can write a couple decent lines every now and again. And yes I mean everyone can. I used to sit down with my headphones on at open mike night and write something on the spot and delivered correctly people were always stoked. I am not a writer or a musician. Hell I walked in on a recording session where the band was struggling with the hook and my buddy and I rewrote it on the spot.
Just because someone has had a few hot songs doesn't mean they're stuff isn't garbage. I'm a fan of 50 cent but most of what he's trying to do right now is garbage because he's gotten lazy and money fat just like Lil Wayne.
If clear channel did their job then maybe the radio wouldn't be saturated with filth and useless songs about money a blow jobs. But hey... god forbid someone says **** or **** in a song. At least they're being honest about what they're saying. Not hiding the messages so 11 year olds all over the country are singing their lyrics.
Lil Wayne and everyone doing what he does are useless pieces of ****.
I'd rather listen to Mos Def any day of the week... even his more recent weaker isht.

Then, he gets on a bad *** mixtape, knows he's not getting a % of the sales from the track, and knows this music wont be blasted on the radio for the "public" to hear, and he tears that **** up.
I agree that we somewhat agree, but our angles are a little off. And trust me, I would much rather listen to some Curren$y, old underground Wiz Khalifa, or Mos Def. And yes, today's music is ****ing sad, and the lyrics that I have to listen to, and look forward to my kids listen to on the radio erks the **** out of me. Its ridiculous.

See the difference of the angle for me is that I've been behind the doors. I worked in various parts of the music industry for almost 10 years.
If you think that the music industry isn't telling people what they want to hear then I'd love to hear what you'd have to say at one of the meetings behind closed doors.
Often times it starts with something that people grab a hold of but not always. You'll have stuff like Adelle where she blows up. Then the music industry spits out 50 carbon copies of her until people get sick of it. But often times it's the industry saying... this will work. They make it and then they force it down your throat and you're none the more aware that they're telling you what's what.
So I do agree that he's giving people what they want but I think he's a puppet.

^ This..........lol anyone who says there isn't any good hip hop after the 90's isn't looking hard enough. If you are into beats and love that dilla sound it's a good time to be alive.....do some research and stop listening to the radio.

MF Doom is the isht.
I listen to a lot of the more underground stuff... not too much SUPER underground but a lot of stuff that's not totally commercial.
People Under the Stairs level stuff.

Okay. CunninLynguists.
Exactly. People don't know what they like, they are fed what the media wants them to like.
