ok, the cop scrathed out the "when to appear" section, and ceck the "to be notified" box.
its also marked infraction, not misdemeanor. it says on the back of the ticket that for a misdemeanor i have to appear, but it says nothing about an infraction.
and for misdemeanor, it says i have to do all the crap such as paying the fine etc etc by the date written on the ticket if i dont appear.
but there is no date.
what the hell?

Is your lisence provisional? If so, then you will be notified by mail, if I am not mistaken.
If the ticket says, "To be notified", then I would call the clerk and give her your citation number. If it is in the system, they will tell you when your court date is. If not, then you are free and clear buddy.
I actually got a CA state ticket from a park ranger in 1994 down at Hungry Valley SVRA, an off road vehicle park just north of Valencia (LA Area).
It was for no spark arrestor on a dirtbike. I huge fine in CA. I was supposed to go to court on 12 DEC 1994 in Sylmar. At 1300 in romm 1200! I still remember as I was so scared and I was only 16 or 17.
I never told my mother. I did not go. I was so afraid that I was going to get arrested for an FTA for so long, but no. I have joined the Navy, peen stopped NUMEROUS TIMES, had a National Agency Check (Government Security Clearance Bacground Investigation) and nothing ever came up. It has been 9 years.
To this day, I still have the ticket, and I have never told my mother. I still worry that one of these days, during a traffic stop or something stupid, the warrant is giong to pop!
I don't know what happened. I actually did a police record check on myself, posing as a military recruiter, to the LA county sherrifs dept, an nothing?
Maybe I slipped through the cracks, maybe you will too!
Good luck,
Andy

The ticket you got IS a Notice to Appear. You signed it and that means you acknowledged at that time that you will take care of it by paying for it or appearing in court ON OR BEFORE the date at the bottom....you now have a WARRANT for your arrest. You may not hear about the waarant until you get a new license, or get pulled over again...the info someone already gave about the fines and the pioints on your license and the insurance costs are the truth and the least of your worries. Your license is probably already suspended for the Failure to Appear. It is an officer's discretion now on wether you will be arrested if they come across you during another violation, and they run your license. You will then have the fines, suspension and jail to look forward to, as well as the tow bill because you are unlicensed!
Get down to the court and take care of it now.
