Angry Hurrah for the wonderful people known as the SFPD...

Hello...

Here is a good story for all.

I got pulled over two days ago for not having a front plate on. I just got my plates on Thursday and mounted them Friday. Unfortunately I never got mounts from Carlson Subaru, which I discovered when I tried to mount them... I am wondering if you normally get screws / mounts for the front plate? Anyways when I got my plates I figured that I would have at least ONE day to put it on... well I was wrong.

I got pulled over near park presidio.

I was sitting at the light in the left turn lane on the way back home to the south bay to wash my car. FYI never park head first near the water at Fort Point, you might get a nice salt water bath like I did.

According to Mr. Officer "they have a city wide initiative to crack down on people who do not have front plates on." Whatever, that’s not what bugs me most about this.

The thing that bugs me is the fact that he said "That exhaust tip looks pretty big it must be aftermarket." He then asked me to turn my car on again and said "Yep that has to be after market exhaust, and I’m going to write you up for non standard exhaust." But as it turns out it is the stock exhaust which is pretty quiet in general! I tried to explain to him its just the stock exhaust and that i had done no mods to the car, its barely a month old, but he was having none of it.................. wow just wow

He then went on saying that I had to go to CHP to get a db check, and if I wanted to fight it and provide some documentation from Subaru that is the standard exhaust the I could submit the documents to the judge.... wonderful.

I swear that this guy was just profiling cars and saw the STI's wing and decided to hassle me. I even had my front plate with me and showed to him that there was no way to mount it currently, no luck.

City wide initiative my ****....

Wow... Maybe you should carry an STi brochure or something. That way, when someone pulls you over for crap like that, you can just point to the brochure.

It's going to get worse before it gets better that's for sure. That arm is getting longer and longer.

I said this in an earlier post, but I strongly stand by it. Any ticket should be a bet rather than a fine. If it turns out the officer is wrong, such as in this case, HE has to pay the fine. That would help eliminate this B.S. ticketing

Do you have to pay for anything if you go to court and show them that your car is not modified? How can you prove that it's stock anyway? Can't they just say it was modified before and you just put the stock parts on?

That really sucks.

i'm going to hijack this thread for a second to pose a question.

you stated:

so if he profiled based on the exhaust tip... what would happen if we all used a 2" exhaust tip? would the profiling still continue until the exhaust is actually "heard" rather than "seen"?

irregardless... cops these days are not using their common sense to judge sound noise like they should be. they're just trying to hit their quotas so they get paid a handsome paycheck.

sucks, which is why im dewinging my car and going with an exhaust SMALLER than stock. THe stock evo exhaust tip is 4" and chrome (very similar for the STi). Im going with a 3" straight cut peice of pipe and painting it flat black

There is no such thing as a quota for any type of law enforcement. You ran into a cop on a bad day and he decided he was going to give you a ticket. You can't make people break the law, so a quota wouldn't make sense. Why does everyone think there's a quota, because they get caught/given a ticket?

There is no such thing as a ticket quota for police.
Cops don't get paid extra money when they give you a ticket.

My friend's dad was recently pulled over in his Camaro and got a ticket for tint, front plate, and exhaust. The tint was 75% (very light), the front plate wasn't on there when he bought the car used, and the exhaust was stock. Oh, he also got a ticket for parking on a bridge where he was pulled over...they told him to pull over there. Talk about getting hassled... He almost even got a ticket because the address on his license wasn't current: just moved 7 days prior. So, 4 BS Tickets on 1 stop and the officer was "letting him off easy" because he could have given 2-3 more. You know what my friend's dad said to us about it? "I shouldn't have said 'WTF did you pull me over for?'"

THey dont get paid extra, but there are definately quotas. If you have a traffic cop, who's only job is to write traffic citations, how can you judge if he is working or not if you dont have a quota?
