You only have to pay if there was a transfer in title. If you are the owner, and moving to CA, then you don't pay sales tax/use tax. If the car was purchased less then 90 days ago, then you still pay taxes.

I just moved my car from Seattle, and it is not that hard to register the car in Cali..... But be sure to get a smog.. although when I went to the dmv they only asked me if I did the smog or not and didn't even check my paper. It is good to do it just in case they check it. cos if not they will sent you to a stricter department. All you have to do is present them with you title in Hawaii and you don't have to surrender your existing plates. I paid 185 for my 03 wrx. Other thing is to make an appointment online.. it is much quicker than lining up. Have cash or check.. they don't take CC. You alos need to get a Visual inspection from the DMV before you fill out the documents.. but ppl there don't know **** about cars.

Good luck... and my car is from Canada... you don't have to pay tax if you own it for more than 90days or you pay tax at your home state already.. but don't tell them that if you are not asked to .. they usually don't really care.

it's either 90 or less or you pay tax at another state already...

When I did mine they didnt' even asked if I have had it for 90days or more or I pay tax already..

if they ask sometime they will ask for proof.. like your sales receipt or something... but if they don't ask don't mention it.....

Really depends on the DMV officer you are talking to.
