How Many Would Give Up UCSD For Davis?
#46
I did visit the UCSD for admit day, although I didnt feel like I was surrounded by supermodels, the prospects did seem promising. Love the wheather of Diego. I never really toured UCD's campus, but have been to Davis alot for the parties, and there were a lot of cuties at the social events. But dont like the town of Davis itself. The only plus to Davis is that its relatively close to the bay. Just a boring hr & 1/2 drive up highway 80. I've driven to SD and 9 hrs does suck a lot more, but Im going to SD. It also appears most would choose SD over Davis. And if the parties do suck in SD, I could always bring condoms down to San Diego State(STD SU)...
i had a lot a friends go to davis and I used to go up a lot to party and the parties are fun up in davis, but i've never really checked out the campus.
As for SD i went to admit day and really liked it.
I kno that i dont really like the city of davis but the people are cool.
I really like the location & wheater of San Diego.
There r a lot of cute asian chicks in Davis, but I didnt see as many in SD.
So i guess im leaning towards Diego, and I just wanted to see if there were any more positive aspects of Davis tht Im not aware of...

Well Academically both intitutions are great, so I dont have any doubts about the quality of education I'll be recieveing at any of these places. I definitely plan to study harder than I party, but by how much more, is yet to be determined. I just wanted to ensure that I have as many opportunities as I can to get a full college experience. Especially the experiences that can't be found in the classrooms.

i cant believe this thread has deteriorated to the low point of who has hotter chicks...
remember, these 2 schools are part of probably one of the best PUBLIC higher institutions of higher learning in the nation.
but yet, as adults we reach back into our primordial thinking and again, the denigration of females as sexual objects surpass as too which school is a better choice to improve one's status into the working society.
shame on you.
shame shame shame...

I went to UCD and got my engineering degree there.
As crappy as the location may be, the fact that the town of Davis is catered to the university, and the smallness makes the students have a pretty good college experience. I felt like even though we had no exciting city in easy access (SF is still 1.7 hours away) that forced us to enjoy what life is really about: your friends (besides family). We'd find things to do that was just hanging out.
I found a group that was really tight and that made all the difference. Sure we did some "country" things like tubing down a remote river all day... but it was FUN.
I had a lot of friends who went to Berkeley tell me that if they had to do it all over, they would have chosen Davis. You can't beat the "university town" life.
I got a great Engineering education there, one that was comparible to my friend (of the same major) who went to UCB. The big difference is student competition. But I probably came out of the program understanding engneering a bit better than my berkeley friend.
That being said, SD has gorgeous weather, gorgeous beaches, gorgeous women. Both schools are very good, so I don't see how either choice will fail you academically.
Oh... if you like riding bikes, then go to Davis. EVERYONE rides a bike there.

San Dee-aah-go...
Ron Burgundy: Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
Veronica Corningstone: No, there's no way that's correct.
Ron Burgundy: I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.
Veronica Corningstone: Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?
Ron Burgundy: No. No.
Veronica Corningstone: No, that's - that's what it means. Really.
Ron Burgundy: Agree to disagree.
Sorry, I never went to college so I have nothing to contribute to this. If I were to go to school I would try for MIT. Otherwise go to UCSC so I could be close to home.

Davis is giving me $16,000 in free aid ayear
but
San Diego is only giving me $5,000, and $5000 in subsidized loans a year
dammit, what to do?
Go to Davis on the Gov't
or
Go to San Diego out of my own pocket
just when i thought i had it figured out...

If you went to UCSD, would you have to work at the same time? If not, go where you want (which sounds like UCSD).
If you WILL have to work because you are getting $11k less in free money, then go to UCD.
WORKING WILL KILL MOST COLLEGE LIFE ADVANTAGE UCSD WOULD HAVE.
