I'm not trying to be a douche bag, I'm just curious: are you or is someone close to you of a weight that requires more than one airline seat?

it's an unfortunate situation, but it's pretty common sense. if you are too large to fit into the seat as designed, you will need to buy another seat...assuming the airplane is "full". the article i read on the subject mentioned if the flight was "not full", then there was no charge.

i think the real sticky point is at what % capacity does the airline think the airplane is "full".

i voted yes, if can't fit, you must acquit...no wait...

i think instead of charging for 2 seats, airlines should provide seats for people of that size. i don't know why they haven't figured that out yet, can't be that hard....just make a bigger seat!!!!!!!!!!

You're overlooking the obvious: they don't do that because it would cut into their profits. Making larger seats means less passengers, which means less tickets sold.

Except in the case of medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, I believe being overweight is a question of personal responsibility.

I'm oversimplifying to an extent, but most people are fat because they are too lazy to eat right and exercise. If you do not put food in your mouth, you do not gain weight -- end of story.
