A picture say a thousand words. Maybe you can upload a clear pic, or several pictures with different light angles to properly depict the problem you are trying to correct so we can get the best idea of the condition.
How many passes did you do with the Mothers mag polish? What was the material you applied it with? And did you do it by hand or machine? If by hand, what type of motion? If my machine, what type of speed?

Heres an example. This was a Fujitsubo back box I restored that had seen many years of Japanese environmental conditions. This was very withered and required a multi-step restoration process. Everything from chemical detox to several stages of polishing and final polishing, and finishing up with a metal surface sealant.

I am sure yours is no where near as bad. Poor steel quality can also play a factor in the way the metal reacts to extreme temperature variances and its aging behavior.
