I agree, its complete BS that SOA sells the '04+ STi Fuel Filter with the Fue Pump only together as a package.

The fuel filter was moved from the engine bay to help prevent puncture in a front/drivers impact. 02-04 WRX's have there fuel filter in the engine bay that are replaced every 30k (nice and easy). We did get word that some people have made the swap back to the old style when reaching 60k. We are looking into this as an option, but there are obvious legalities associated with the swap. I guess you can be happier that they only have to be replaced every 60k.

So does that mean my 05 WRX's 60k service will cost $975?

Auto HQ use synthetics for engine oil, diff, transmission and even the air filter is a genuine subaru part, but foam not paper(and it only costs $2 more!). When it comes to the 30,000 mile service, I think I'd rather Ron Price didn't take out my Motul RBF600 fluid and put in stock stuff.

If only I could wind back time to when they offered me the extended plan. The problem is this, How will not letting subaru touch my car for servicing affect my warranty???, I was kinda hoping for a new gearbox out of them if mine goes pop.

anyways, Kevin was excellent, answered my many questions happily and even took me out in his specially prepped drift nissan...which he drifted for me (off road). I'll be seeing him again in a few thousand miles.
I went to AHQ for my 30k service, a few things to note. If you ask to use all synthetic fluids, I would advise that you request they don't use synthetic in the tranny. They used Mobil 1 synthetic in mine, apparently the WRX tranny doesn't get along with this too well, it's too slick for the synchro's. I discovered this after my 4th gear started to grind when downshifting, I took it to Subaru of Santa Cruz to get regular non-synthetic put back in and the grind is gone. I'm actually surprised Kevin with AHQ uses Mobil 1 synthetic, as lots of people have documented in Subaru forums that they get grinding with this stuff.

They also told me they used a "high performance" air filter, well a little research on the model number revealed it's a Legacy air filter...don't know why they're using this, but I suppose if it's OK for the 2.5 turbo, it's OK for the 2.0. Other than that, everything looked to be OK. Total price for the service was around $350.

We did ours early, so we could have peace of mind when travelling to AZ to the Magellan Rally. These guys were up until midnight making sure that the car was as rally prepped as it could be....

...skidplates, lighting, Carbotech pad swap-out, etc. in addition to the 60K.

Again, kudos to LIC, and I'll continue sending more business your way. May you have a happy and successful New Year!!

Ok, I'm coming up on the 60k mark myself. I have been planning on having the timing done at the 60k mark (primarily because in Japan that would be 100k Kilometers and that is usually when they recommend timing changes)

May or may not have the funds together for the 60k + Timing + Motor and tranny mount upgrades that I want to have done, I definately feel better now knowing that the folks at LIC and Gruppe-s do the timing at a higher interval.

Gotta love this board, awesome all the time

sounds like it from LIC, probably closer to $1500-1600 at a dealer.

+1 for AHQ. I've had my 30k service done there as well. Kevin and Tony are great.

That sucks. I am gonna call around and check if that's really the case. If it is, I'm just going to sell my car at 50k because I think it's a waste of munny. $600 difference between 02-04 WRX and 05+ WRX for a 60k maintenance is just ridiculous. I think Subaru is trying to rip the 05+ WRX owners off!

I had been considering upgrading to an STi, but I'll wait and see what happens. With this and the plastic engine mounts to help void warranties, it looks like the '06 STi is going to be an expensive car to maintain.

yeah i heard about the plastic engine mounts too. so stupid. changing the whole fuel assembly just to replace the filter? this is ridiculous. SOA is seriously ripping us off.
