+1 LIC

All my work has been done by LIC, with the exception of a ECU tune (Gruppe-s). I feel better taking it there than a dealership. Adam is meticulous! Also Kevin has worked on my car at LIC. +1 for Kevin :]

Hahahaha, well that's good because if a timing belt breaks the whole engine is almost always toasted...I'm glad the manufacturers are conservative about the recomended timing belt replacements.

I needed an oil change between my pre-paid subaru oil changes, so I thought I'd give Auto HQ a try seeing as i-Club give them frequent thumbs up. Kevin showed me the difference in fluids that subaru uses and it made me realise that I'd wasted my money with this service plan. Auto HQ use synthetics for engine oil, diff, transmission and even the air filter is a genuine subaru part, but foam not paper(and it only costs $2 more!). When it comes to the 30,000 mile service, I think I'd rather Ron Price didn't take out my Motul RBF600 fluid and put in stock stuff.

If only I could wind back time to when they offered me the extended plan. The problem is this, How will not letting subaru touch my car for servicing affect my warranty???, I was kinda hoping for a new gearbox out of them if mine goes pop.

anyways, Kevin was excellent, answered my many questions happily and even took me out in his specially prepped drift nissan...which he drifted for me (off road). I'll be seeing him again in a few thousand miles.

Drift Nissan? was it a silver 240SX coupe or a red 240SX hatchback?

unless you have extended warranty, why do you care? You are doing 60k service means you are going out of warranty anyway right? As far as negaive impact on warranty, they would have to prove whatever you did was the cause of the defect. Good luck!

most people I've spoken to say that subaru laughed when they asked for a new tranny under warranty so I guess it doesn't matter.

I'm glad their are so many great alternatives to the dealership. I was worried when I thought about bringing my car into the dealers for the maintenance. I'll be definitely going to LIC when my time comes.

my experience with the dealership is bad. i brought it in for them to fix the tranny, now second gear has a weird clunk sound when i shift too hard...sometimes when i am shifting into 2nd like a gramma *clunk* and subaru says its not anything they did haha, noah pencil me in! i would rather pay LIC to do it, then have subaru fix it under warranty haha.

On the LIC Motorsports 30/60/90K services price list, it says

60K Service: $375.00
60K Service (MY 04 STi/05 and Newer): $975.00

Does that mean the 04 - 06 STi's 60K service costs $975, or the 04 STi and any 05 and 06 STi + WRX's 60K service costs $975? It sounds like only the STi's 60K service costs $975 and the regular WRX's costs $375, but I can't be sure.
Can someone also explain to me why STi's 60K service costs so much more?

After replacing my fuel pump recently we finally got a look at the STi fuel filter which is located in the fuel tank above the pump. We tried to order some fuel filters for stock, only to find out that they do not sell the filter seperate from the whole assembly. To replace the filter, which is scheduled for 60k, you must purchase the whole assembly which is around $500. The fuel filter was moved from the engine bay to help prevent puncture in a front/drivers impact. 02-04 WRX's have there fuel filter in the engine bay that are replaced every 30k (nice and easy). We did get word that some people have made the swap back to the old style when reaching 60k. We are looking into this as an option, but there are obvious legalities associated with the swap. I guess you can be happier that they only have to be replaced every 60k.
