Hey look I'm an idiot
So, yesterday evening I was around Merritt College area/Redwood road in Oakland picking up a friend and we decided to get nasty with the wagon. I pushed it going uphill and came out okay on those piece of **** RE92's. On the way back to the freeway, going down campus drive, we did a dumb thing and decide to push it again. For some compulsive reason while going through a slightly banked turn, I wanted to see the end out a bit, so I throttled it a bit more right at the apex of the turn. The turn was a banking left turn that settled into a straight, and the car started sliding *** out, but it was happening too quickly so I flicked the wheel the other way and gave it a tap of gas. Well with my **** for luck, the car decides to turn completley sideways except it's facing towards the right on a left turn. At this point, I could've hit a house or a lightpost but decide to go sideways into a field that was thankfully there (big whew) and I cracked my left front stock rims and severely scuffed the rear and even bent it at a point where the tip hit the curb. Needless to say, it was a learning experience and it was a really juvenile thing for me to do with other people in the car. However, I've moved on from feeling like an idiot for botching up and am now focused on fixing the car, preferably by myself. After the incident, I drove the car and it seemed to have a tendency to go towards the right and had some vibrations at around 70-80 mph. Today, I put it on a lift at work and saw that it looked like it was running positive camber by 2-5 degrees (through the naked eye). The damage was mostly to the wheels and I guess the curb was low enough/wheel wall high enough that most of the force that hit the car went into the tires. Now I need to know what I should be keeping an eye out for when I'm underneath the car again. I will ask a mechanic on monday, however I thought I'd share my experience with the i-club and ask you guys for help. Any suggestions as to what parts and/or bits I should keep a close eye to? Thanks for your replies.

first off, don't drive like that mmmm K?
my guess is that either the strut or control arm is F'ed, but I am not a mechanic.
From personal stupid experience, the first thing you should do is take it to an alignment shop to see if its just camber thats off, which I doubt. whatever wheel is vibrating is probably the toe being off is my guess.
Most likely you have at least $1000 in parts alone to fix this, then labor.
I would be surprised if something wasn't broken.
Take it to a reputable alignment shop, find out what is off, see if they can adjust it at all, and get an idea of what mechanically is broken.

Wow everyone is so scary.
Cause this happened to me like 6 months ago (but it caused by a tire blowout and @ ~60mph). Car turned out to be fine even though everyone was like "you broke an axle", the vibrations might just be the damaged wheel/f'd up alignment really becoming noticeable.
So you might get lucky. But 5 degrees would be bad...

Sorry to hear about the damage.
Lower control/A-arm is first to go in these curbage accidents
Check the hub too. But it sounds OK since you could drive it 75-80mph.
And since your rims didn't bend to the point where the tires deflated, it doesn't sound all that bad.
Roger Kraus Racing in Castro Valley does great work.
Good luck,
Sean

I did that a couple months ago. I had to take a leak and came sprinting through the house. Stopped and watched as my phone leaped from my sweatshirt pocked into the toilet. I snatched it and guess what....it still works. I got the mad reflexes. It didn't even settle into the bowl. SWEET>
oh...and on the accident bit.
I think you need to adjust your thinking. You admitted messing around. You admitted pushing it to hard on crappy tires. You admitted to getting the back out "on purpose". You lost control. Not luck...you made a choice. In all actuality you have very good luck. You didn't hit a pole and kill your passenger. You didn't hit a house and kill some 10 year old kid in his sleep. And you didn't flip/total your car.
Sounds like you and your car came out ok. That my friend...is very good luck. I've done it....believe me....good luck.
My guess...if it's not an 05 your control arm is shot. You probably bent your hub as well.
If you're luckily you just really tweaked stuff and need to get an aligment.
I'd take the car to a shop that knows what to look for.
I'd start accepting that you may have to replace a few parts.
Hub. Wheel. Control arm. Sway bar. Endlinks...etc.
Hopefully everything else is cool>
on top of that...WTF are you doing drive 80mph on a bent rim and jacked up suspension after an accident?

hey, I seriously have no problem admitting I'm an idiot. I guess it's one of those near **** up **** ups that gets me to think, I'm kind of glad I got into that, it's a nice reality check on my driving which has sort of been going downhill in terms of consideration for others lately.
