From the information I was given by an animal control officer and a pest control worker, there are two codes, one in Health and Safety and one in the Fish and Game codes, that forbid a person from feeding feral animals in California, especially in residental areas. You cannot feed feral cats without some sort of special permit, I forget the name.
That is the information I am going on, so if I am wrong, or was misinformed someone please tell me.

cat problem
I did not read the whole post, but what you can try doing is filling containers full of water(like a milk container) and plase them aroudn the car..... cats don;t like water and can sense the containers.... work for my dad.... after he did that... no more paw prints on the car.

^ That may work too! Good idea.
I am hoping with all the rain in the winter will keep the cats off the car just because then they would get soaked.
Damn thats a lot of cats...holy crap...does your neighbor throw them birthday parties too?
Sleeping under my truck I have no 'huge' problem with that. If it is raining and the kitties want somewhere to hide, hell, the truck is high enough I could sleep under there, why not let them? Plus it doesnt damage my paint when they sleep under it.
Of course I could accidentally run them over but ideally they are smart enough to get out of the way But if they are crappin' on your lawn thats not good for it. I have heard kitty crap is highly acidic or something to that effect...I dont really like cats, so I dont care to know much about their crap...

If you're worried about them sleeping under your truck all you have to do is hit your horn before you start up the truck. That should make any creatures in or around your truck scatter and you should be good to go.

That's true, that and given my near straight pipe exhaust, if they stick around after start-up they get whats coming to them...

To the assmunches that can't take a joke in this thread, here's some advice. "Remove head from sphincter, THEN post." If you seriously don't understand the sense of humor, don't get butt hurt about other people's sense of humor.
To the person who thinks Rachel can't hit a cat with a rifle at 20 yards, you're an idiot and obviously have never fired or even touched a gun in your life. Gun's aren't evil, Liberal idiots are.

Yeah you can't really gain speed in my driveway thats for sure. I just dont want to run 'em over. I have hit plenty of animals in that truck by accident just driving down the road. I dont want to hit one while parking
I figure I could handle a rifle shot at 20 yards. Though I would be better with a bow. But like I said, repellant/trapping is the first line of defense.
I confirmed it with the pest control guy that it is illegal to feed feral animals (including cats) in the state of California. I guess feral cats have become a real problem in this area because people feed them, and then the cats breed, and breed, and breed etc. So there are a lot of them and their fecies is actually doing harm to the environment. Something about the acid/amonia getting into the water and running out to the ocean and what not. Im sick so I am foggy-headed and having memory trouble.
And in the City of San Jose [I dont live there but I figured I would post it anyway] you cannot have more than 6 cats and they all need to be licensed, if I understood him correctly they all have to be licensed.
And it is fully legal to trap them on your property and remove them to the pound.
Just thought I would throw that up there.

...I'm not much for street racing in a school zone, and definitely not anywhere close to agreeable about firing off weapons (be they rifles, handguns, shotguns, mortars, grenade launchers or missile launchers) in residential neighborhoods. It's obvious by your response that you have no qualms about creating such hazards.

So I have a can of repellant that seems to be working [though we will see for how long]...since they were too cunning to be trapped last night. There were no new paw prints/scratches on the truck this morning so I am hoping that the repellent will work on a steady basis. You have to spray the area every 24 hours for optimal results so we shall see. The lady at the pet store said that A LOT of people come in to buy repellant because the neighbors cats are sleeping on/hurting their vehicles, so that made me feel a bit better. I am not the only one

i have a major cat problem too, my place that i live at has a small parking garage in the back. i park under this closed top shed looking spot basically with a wooden roof. for the past month and a half, not a single week has passed by that i did not get muddy cat paw prints all over my car. looks like they climb up from the trunk and go over the rear windshield, onto the roof, and down the front windshield to the hood.
i just came back to san jose yesterday, just washed my car over the weekend to get rid of some major dirty paw prints from the previous rain storm, and its only been ONE NIGHT! and i have a bunch of new paw prints already. its only been ONE NIGHT!!!! WTF MAN! this is really pissing me off. i really dont want to be staying up all night waiting for the cat because i need to sleep for i have class early in the morning.
any other methods for a poor college student? btw, the area is covered with dirt and pebbles, no plants. i swear i want to kick the next cat i see over a house, but its probably not the right one. i just wanna get the ones thats been dirtying up my car.

no, seriously, whip out the big dick and pee. Works for deer.
Urine, coyote or human can be either spread where needed or applied to sachets or dispenser bottles. I like the dispenser bottles because the scent is protected from rain and can last for up to a month before you need to replenish it. Coyote urine can be purchased in bottles from 8 ounces to 1 gallon (I really do not want to think about how they harvest the stuff). If you are collecting your own human "product," the first of the day is usually the most potent. With both, I think it is best not to mention to your neighbors what is in the little bottles hanging from the trees.
It's fun too! Weeee!
