Help from any commuters to San Jose area etc..
So I've been at my job for about 7 months or so in San Jose off 237, I'm living in walnut creek/Lafayette area and my commute sucks ***. I really think it's making me unhappy and is getting to me, not to mention gas is killing me and wearing my sti out is not a happy subject either. That being said I have some friends who want to move to sf/oakland area or somewhere around there.
Does anyone think this is would be a shorter commute or have any advice about the situation??
Should I try and find random roomates somewhere else? should i really just move right next to my job because of it ?? (i've pretty much been offered bonus to stay for year+ but do want to go back to school sometime etc.)
Any thoughts or location advice is welcomed.

Commuting really wears me out after a while and it's just mentally healthier for me to live close to work.

I used to live in SF and worked in Milpitas - the commute was horrible, not to mention it wasted 3+ hours a day of my time. I moved to San Jose (about 10-15minutes away from work) and I could not be happier with the arrangement.

if you live nearby it makes a big difference. I live in South San Jose and work in Sunnyvale (off 237 and 101) and the longest it has ever taken me was about 50min. Usually, its more like 30-40 min. Its less than 40 miles round trip for me as well. I'd say move down to SJ or Milpitas and save yourself the long *** commute.

30+ minutes 1-way everyday for me. I am used to it already. Doesn't bother me. But I used to commute from SF to Santa Clara (1hr in the morning and 2+hr in the afternoon). That I couldn't take. I rather commute from Santa Cruz to Santa Clara (1hr each way). I think anything under 1hr is okay for me.
For you, I say keep your job and find something closer to work. Finding a good job is harder than finding a nice place to stay. Now if you can find a better job, then by all means, move. good luck!

I used to commute from S SJ to San Ramon, I hated the long commute, even without traffic the miles add up on the car and maintainance and just put me in a bad mood.

I usually take 101 > Mathilda. 85 is too unpredictable for me, and it's an automatic 10 minutes wait at the metering lights, where as getting on at 101 is 2 at most.
