Alright, I have only had the problem twice, seeing as how I have only redlined my fourth gear twice...

When I go to shift into 5th Gear from 4th at or near redline (6200 for my 07 wrx) it feels as though my 5th Gear is locked... as trying to put it in reverse would feel.

I have no problems getting it into 5th AT ALL when under 120mph... but from 120-130mph in 4th.... I CAN'T GET IT INTO 5th!!!!! My old RS had a problem getting into 5th at high rpms also.... but it was older and I don't know if it was inherent in the design of the tranny....

So, is it me or possibly the car??? I haven't been up at those speeds and rpms in 4th to get to try too many variations.... the only thing I can think of is shifting at around 5k instead of pulling 4th to 6200 rpms... ANY advice would be appreciated

I've had problems skipping to 5th gear from like 2nd gear @ 7000 rpms. I realized the best way is to row through the other gears to get to 5th... but I can barely remember the last time I wrapped out 4th gear.

 

shouldnt 5th gear pull you fast enough from 115 up? you must be an astronaut or something. my RS tops out at 115 probly 120 but ive never been there

its kinda like when you wake up...and you tell someone "my neck hurts when i turn it this much"
