having fun with the sti

yo there

a couple pics of what i have done so far....

-roll cage is out
-i painted my stock wheels black, and am having my new lm-22's mounted for winter on those wheels
-apv1 with "stock" cobb map
-nvidia catback for noise
-snorkus removed
-2008 bbs wheels bc'ed black wrapped in 245/40 dunyies
-25mm ichiban space
-rally flaps
-camber bolts go on this week (hopefully)

things i want to do
-better guages
-kartboy rear end links
-bigger rear sway
-tranny and motor grN mounts
-DP

the suspension is STOCK and i plan to keep it that way for now. with the crazy winters here in Truckee, no need to get all lowered. it rotates just fine, and with the addition of the above suspension mods, should be great.

the roll cage is for sale if anyone is interested....

have a geroooovy day....

that looks sick as hell! I love the wheels that stick out with the flaps, I'm going to do something similar.

Damn dude, that's a lot of work, you just got it this month right? Glad that you're happy with it!

stock suspension and a roll cage?

Interesting order of modifications. Diggin the snow set up though. Gonna be fun as hell to smash around in the snow with those tires and that set up. sweet.

oneman, yeah, the previous owner had a cusco roll cage in it. the suspension has never been touched. it has ti strut tower braces, but that is all. oh and the simpson harness. might keep that in for scca....

i needed my airbags to work for my kiddo who is in this car with me a bunch, and i was nervous about anyone in the car smacking into one of the bars. sooo the roll cage came out, and i plugged tghe holes....

thanks for the props all!! i am super happy so far. the power is GREAT, and i am shying from going to wild due to the daily driver status.

more pics later this week....

josh

PS anyone know of HEAVIER springs that DO NOT lower the car much? i really need the travel, and i simply want to match up some stiffer springs to the stock struts....

There's a dude selling Spec C suspension in the classifieds. I used to have it on my car and loved it. Might be able to get the springs from him and run those. They're stiffer and BARELY lower the car. Talking like 10mm from your stock sti springs.

Same with the Pink springs. But I think the pinks are progressive and the spec c's are linear.

Those are gonna lower your car the least. There's other options out there that only lower it a little. I run the pink wagon springs on my wagon. I like them. I'd rather run the RCE or Swift springs but the pinks keep me higher for the snow and driving on my gravel driveway.

and yeah that's my feelings for cages on street cars. They're almost more dangerous to people in the car not wearing helmets.

Sell that sucker and get some springs. Oh and props for shying away from going nutso on mods. I think a lot of people get carried away just because they can. In my opinion anything over 300 at the wheels is pretty much useless on the road and you can get that without destroying the reliability of the car. Hell all I want is 275. haaaa.

Careful about those 25mm Ichiban spacers. Subaru's do not go well with extreme wheel spacers and you will be going through wheel bearings.

autoHQ, thanks for the heads up. i am well aware of the wheel bearing issue. i have kept wheel bearings "in stock" at my house just in case. pay to play i guess.....

OMA, it would be WaaaY down the list the carbon fenders. and the more i look at it, rolling fenders in front, and pulling in the rear will be fine for summer. my stock 17's with the 245 winter tires, with spacers should fit fine . i test fit those last night as well....

josh

PS been drving around town through all the really bad areas of truckee, and so far so good. all crossed up and no rub. many pot holes and such as well.....
