Hard Drive Failure, Anybody got an Enclosure?
Hey guys, I just had a hard drive failure on a 200 gig drive. I was wondering if anybody had a hard drive enclosure that I could borrow for a week to try to recover files. Please let me know via PM. I'm urgent to get a few important files off.

well, you dont need an external enclosure, you can just attach it to another IDE/SATA chain in the computer you plan on recovering the data from. worst case cenario you disconect your cd-rom drives while you do your recovery.
if you want, im more then happy to try and help you out, if you wana describe the problem.

Thanks for the replies.
I had to use an enclosure: the computer wouldn't boot while trying to read the drive signature information. The drive is toast I even tried the freezing method - no go. The platters are touching the arm and it's causing horrible clicking noises.
Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Hehe.

if the drive is clickign you need to stop where you are. every time the drive clicks your loosing data. if the system wont boot with the drive connected via IDE then there is a 90% chance it wont mount, and just cause your system to hang. if there is something very important on the drive i would suggest sending it to a place like Drive Savers. they will pull it apart in a clean room and install the platters in a new HD 'body'. you would be looking at something in the $500 - $2700 range depending on the size of the drive and the time frame you are looking at.

Hahahaha, it's nothing important on the drive. I don't think I'd pay more than $100 bucks to get this fixed. It's too late for it now - it's a gone drive. I've heard of Drive Savers, in fact, I used to sell their service, hehe. But that was a while back, Oh well. Thanks for the help guys
