Gun experts: looking for a nice rifle...opinions??

I was looking to get into some recreation target and be able to go hunting with some friends in the summer---boar/varmints---and wanted to see if anyone has any opinions on these two rifles.

Browning X-Bolt synthetic stock and stainless design or the Remington model 700 both in .308 caliber

which one would be the "better" rifle...just looking for an honest opinion

take a look at savage rifles too.

while the aftermarket is not as big as remmie 700's, the savage plain out of the box is as good if not better than a similar 700.

i own a 10FP myself in 308...

I have 2 Remington 700's (270, 243) but, I will say my winchester 70 (270) is more my favorite. I am not a fan of the Savage or the Browning, but thats a personal preference.

honestly savage is a great way to go...only people who don't own them hate on them. I love my savage 10FP...HD barrel + .308...mine is setup as a sniper rifle with a bipod and Leupold VXIII 6.5x20x40, sling, blah blah...but its a great very consistent firearm, very good gun

FYI- Damn hogue for not making the replacement stock for it

Between the sonoma police killings and the bart shooting I think I need a strap just to stay safe from the police.

Theres been about 5+ people killed in sonoma by the cops. Its a total outrage and they have to answer to nobody. The people they have shot have been mentally ill and their families have called for assistance. At least 2 of the guy had no weapon no nothing.Police are suppose to be protecting us. Apparently the Sonoma DA and a few other people won't comment on the issues and won't talk about it. From what I hear you can bet it will be all over the news soon enough.
