Grindage... I got one for you...

O.k.

So my car through a CEL on Sat. I tried to ignition flip to get it off but it stayed. Car seems to run just fine after. Went home. Parked the rest of the weekend. Got ready to work and started it this morning and it made this TERRIBLE grinding noise. So I turned it off and did it again... like 3/4 times. Does it every time but once started my idle is on point and it seems to be running just fine.

Drove it to work this morning. Seemed to actually be running a bit smoother than normal.

Is my starter sticking or could it be something worse? I can't record it unless I have someone else out there with me.

I have a snapped wire from my battery to my starter but as long as it's touching the terminal it starts. I'm wondering if it just cooked my starter.

I'm trying to get a hold of a reader to check the code but I don't have one right now.

I have a copy of torque on my phone and obd2 bluetooth thing if you want to try that. I am in Palo Alto though.

Sorry to hear about your grinding problem. I have no clue what it could be.

Curious about the wire. Could have caused low voltage damage?

That's what I was thinking. That the wire just floating there has caused some kind of issue with the starter itself. It sounds almost like it's not withdrawing fast enough and the flywheel is skipping off it.

But just before my CEL came on my car bucked super hard so I'm hoping I didn't skip a tooth or some ****.

Guess I should fix that wire and see if that fixes my problem. If not I'll have to get it in somewhere to check it out.

Like I said, the bucking sounded familiar, but mine doesn't make any grinding noise and I haven't had any starter issues.

Are these any good?
Autel AL309

There's a dude selling one in Salinas right now that I might just go pick up today. Also found one that goes to my droid but I'm kind of skeptical of that one.

Well... just started my car and drove it around. Then started it again and drove it back.

No grinds. So I'm thinking the grinding may have something to do with a lack of voltage getting to the starter because of that busted wire.

CEL is still on. Unrelated. I think it's probably gonna be the same code that other dude got or maybe just a cat code.

How do you like this? There's a guy on craigslist selling a bluetooth droid set up.

I'm thinking I'll just pick up a regular old reader so I don't have to worry about what phone I'm on.

I ordered my reader from amazon and I am pretty sure it was less than $50.

I can get Autel AL309 locally for $50. Was thinking about picking one up if they're any good.

I bought one from auto zone. It worked well. I believe acutron was the maker. If you were closer I would let you borrow it.

Thanks for the offer. Appreciate it. If I don't buy one before Sunday Justin is gonna bring one by the house... I think.

So far still no more grinding but the CEL is still on.

I have never thrown a CEL (knock on wood) so I do not know how well it can pull a code. It does give you some neat gauges to play with though.
