got ticket on 280n for going 85 when i had my cruise ctl set to 75mph
So driving to work this morning to log some OT, and got pulled over on 280n in redwood city. I have been doing this drive for over 5 years, and know cops dont pull cars over as long as they r under 80mph, so I just sit back and set my cc to 75 and drink my coffee.
The popo comes speeding up behind me, trails me for a mile and pulled me over, I didn't slow or anything thinking that 75mph on an empty 4 lane hw is cool. After all is said and done he writes me a ticket for 85mph, and said he paced me at that speed. I then got pissed, told him he sucks at pacing and i'll see him in court. Flame me all you want but I hate Highway Patrol.
Any idea, whats this gonna coast me, or should I even go to court, I mean its my word against his inability to properly pace a speeder.

He said 85 since he went 85 to catch up too you. Pretty much the same thing happened to me but the chp went 95+ to catch up to me since i was going 70-75 at 6am on a Saturday and he wrote down 90.... But just ask for extensions on the ticket and then for extensions on the written declaration so hopefully he will forget your situation and if that doesn't work go to court and ask for a reduction to the speed you were going + traffic school.

I'm pretty sure they go through enough training to know not to pace until they catch up to the speeder. The HP was just being a dick.
Don't hate the Highway Patrol, hate the way the officer went about his job.

Well in my case the guy never paced me he was flying i got over her got on my *** and light me up. But because of his actions i bet he gives a lot of tickets so you will be able to win a written declaration if you delay it enough and he forgets.

Or he can be a real man, admit that he was going 75, and take the penalty for that. Speed limit in that area is 65, just because others go faster it doesn't mean you're not breaking the law.

Matt edit: (or you can be a real man and bring some home made fruit wine )
quantity over quality i guess. He probably expects people to be lazy and just pay off their BS ticket.

thanks guys, I have never done a Written declaration, but I hear a lot of good things about this method.
I had this happen a few years ago in a beatup crx that couldn't go faster then 80mph up those 280hills and the cops said they pased me over 100mph, I called the bluff that time; they let me go. Its not the money so much as the time and frustration of some HP with bad judgment getting the fact wrong. Make you wonder how many innocent people end up behind bars or worst.
