Question Good transmission shop in east bay/Fremont area? My WRX 4EAT wont move! :TIA:

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a reputable transmission shop in the east bay? My 2002 WRX wagon 4EAT is stuck at my folks house in Fremont and wont move, so I may need to tow it somewhere nearby. Should I avoid the big shops like aamco n such? any info is greatly appreciated! I cant wait to hear how much this will cost me

aamco and midas are the biggest rip-offs. don't ever go there.

Speedelement maybe? I'd say start with the closest local vendors and work your way out. Unless you have AAA or something. If I were you, start calling shops. I know most of them can be pretty busy. Just explain your situation and yeah.

GST should be within the 6 miles that AAA give on their most basic towing deals...

or pay the extra $5-6 per mile...

wow lots of quick replies. thanks guys. i think i'll give GST a call. i live right by there.

not that i doubt the local iclub vendors, but would they be better at diagnosing and sourcing transmissions than a transmission specific shop?

i think most local tranny shops are more of the domestic only type shops.

for example, i went to a local tranny shop in fremont that used to be there for decades.

i brought them my toyota truck that had some custom work done on the transfer cases.

they quoted me $300 just to take a look at it...

GST knows subies bumper to bumper (i assume) so that's why everyone recommends them.

I had suspension problem and my car couldn't move. I also live in fremont, and was told to give Speedelement a call. I had my car towed on a flatbed to the shop. They have pretty good service at Speedelement and I recommend you go there. Good luck!

Depending on where you are, I'd suggest GST (hayward/fremont) or LIC (novato/north bay)

are you able to put the car in gear? any info you can provide can help others diagnose your problem (at least partially). Do you have fluid in the tranny?

Closest shop to you would be Speed Element since its in Fremont. Talk to Danny, Devin, Calvin, or Mike. Besides that, there are the Hayward shops like GST Motorsports and GB Motorsports. Good Luck. Since its a 4EAT, I'm assuming it has to do something with the differential area than the tranny. What mods do you have and what exactly happened?
