Car Info: sti hatchoo!
don't get me wrong, i do understand that there are always outside variables (crazy inconsiderate drivers who can't drive, pot-holes, highway hazardous debri, metal railings, etc.) to consider when riding.

my friends and i started riding with some used 600cc motorcycle. one of them just bought a ninja, while the other and i still have our beaterbikes (cbr600 and an older ninja). that way, there isn't much to cry about if we do drop our bike.

we've all dropped our bikes at least once, but all were at a stop...a typical rookie mistake. but luckily (knock on wood) none of us has layed out while riding.

i did however hear that the CHP course is very helpful and the test was easier than the DMV test. but you do have to bring your own bike, insurance and $200+ for the course.

take the cc rider class and all you have to do is take the written, unless you have your permit. if you have your permit then after the cc rider class all you have to do is show up at the dmv and trade your permit in for a license.

a word of advice, don't blow your wad on a nice bike...get a used bike and great gear. nice set of leathers/gloves/helmet, do not skimp on the gear, it'll save your life.

i was thinking of getting a used $2000 bike, buy some better gear, which i feel safer in. learn with a smaller, under 500 cc bike. thanks for your info.

do what i did, asked a friend who rides a motorcycle to teach you.
I did this to get going, but I also did the MSF CC-Rider class as well. The reason being that my friend has been riding almost 20 years and does a lot of stuff without even thinking about it. At MSF, they go through everything methodically. I figured the more information, the better.
