Good Home Needed for Naughty Pitbull

Hi, A good friend of mine has had a pitbull terrier (Meego is his name ) since he was a few months old and now he has grown into a 70lbs lovable, but destructive, pitbull. Meego's current owners do not walk him regularly and he spends a big portion of the day locked in a crate, but with an attentive owner and a good exercise and discipline routine he would make a great dog...he is very friendly, just out of control.

The current owner is also expecting her second child so for the good of the dog she is giving him away for free to a good home. This is the advert below.

"Meego – FREE full bread – neutered – American Pit Bull (red nose) Terrier – 1 year and 3 months old (DOB 12/10/07) – approx 70 lbs – has all of his current shots. Has had training in the past and is currently in a training class.
Needs attentive owner with lots of time to exercise and lots of patience.
Meego is very loving…very loyal…Super active. Has lots of energy!!!"

If anyone is seriously interested PM me, but be warned, this dog is going to need a lot of exercise, attention and patience to get him where he needs to be. He just tore up a couple of chairs after escaping his crate.

Just out of curiosity, but if he is destructive?!? Why would you want to give the dog away here to someone on I-Club...

Why not advertise on some other forum like Nabisco?!?

My wife and I used to have a destructive dog like this one... It's a ****ing nightmare to come home every night with everything in our home destroyed..
Now I can leave food on the coffee table all night (well I forgot lastnight), and it won't get messed with even at the very edge.

We still have 4 "4 legged" kids.. Seriously, please reconsider with what you are doing. I understand you want to find him a good home but how will you feel if he destroyed someone's very nice or not so nice home?

A dog like this requires someone who needs to be home 24/7, the devotion and love for him....

i think dogs are destructive because they are bored out of their minds... if you spend time to play with them, walk with them, etc, you should be A-OKAY.

With proper attention, training, and exercise this dog will be a fine pet. From the description it sounds like he's kept in a crate when people aren't there. When they are there he is let out, but still not exercised. With already one kid in the family, he probably has not gotten the attention/training he needs. It's sad that people create dogs like this through negligence and then blame the dog for being a "bad" dog.

He will only go to an owner who know's how to handle and satisfy dogs. That's why I'm VERY clear what people are getting themselves into.

Dog noobs need not apply, but this would be a great dog for somebody with experience of high energy pitbulls needs.

100% correct.

I wouldn't want to embarass the owner with details, but this dog has been spending a LOT of time crated, then not walked nearly enough at other times. She is looking for a new home for him because she realises that he's not happy. That's why he's free, with shots, neuter etc...you even get the leashe, toys and crate.

agreed...a dog is only as good/behaved as his owners. If this were my dog, I'd be embarrassed....they can't take care of a dog but they're having a kid? OMG...

I have a 120lbs lab/rott who stands about 18" above our coffee table...I can put a plate w/a giant steak on there, leave the room for 5 minutes, come back, and he won't touch it.

Kids still scare me

Does your 120lbs monster need a naughty 70lbs brother?

A child free home with a good role model dog would be perfect.

+1

No such thing as a bad dog. Only bad owners.

well at least they are being honest. I am sure with the proper exercise those tendencies will go away, and a dog should not be left in a crate for any more than 3 hours.

I think it's crazy to put a dog in a crate but I guess sometime you have to during transport... I let my sis-inlaw's dog (Meko) sit my the back seats of my Evo, sometime even in the front. she always puts her head next to the shift boot so I can pet her and put her wet nose EVERYWHERE and turn my seats white (she is a Samoyed). But I can't stand watching her walking around in the backyard with nowhere else to go.

It was obvious that she just needed to get out. Whenever we stay over and take her out often. The house/yard/garage are fine. It's only when she doesn't get to go out and play then she become destructive.

Crate training dogs isn't a bad thing. Hell for dogs like pit bulls it is often recommended. It's bad when you leave them in there ALL day and don't properly excercise them. Pits are high strung animals and need to move around.

I take my dog on drives too. He is super mello. Just kind of lays there. Won't stick his head out the window if we're going over like 35mph or on twisty roads. But I like to take him with me places.

Sorry for this but... There is no such thing as an American "Pit Bull" Terrier. There is only American Staffordshire Terriers. The only Difference there is between the "Red" and "Blue" nose's is that people breed for color ergo they are the same dog. The only dog people even consider to be called "Pit Bulls" are the people who use the over weight stubby hippo's that were breed to fight.
