Calling in sick is a luxury Army officers (and really soldiers in general) don't have. If one of my guys is sick, they better stay home and get better and be ready to train when they come back. For me, I'd better be close to death or dead out right. I don't have my troops train unless I'm there and if I'm not there, I'm not having them do it either. 2 weeks ago I did a 12 mile Forced March Live Fire sick as a dog on antibiotics and decongestants. Took 1K ml IV bag and 2 800mg ibuprofen and humped it out.

In the end it shows the troops you won't make them do anything you won't do yourself. The only way my guys ask to not do something is if they know they are physically not capable of completeing it which is almost never. This is why I love the Army. Suck it up, drink water and drive on.

show your co-workers more respect than that, im sure someone has to pick up your slack.
With my job it isn't like that... I have assignments assigned to me, and only I do them. When I'm not there, they don't get done, but when I am there, I work faster than almost anyone there which means missing a day or two doesn't really hinder much on the work front.

TAKE TIME OFF WORK WITH YOUR VACATION DAYS>

Dont be a dick and call in sick randomly because you are a lazy pothead.

Others suffer because of you, I have to pick up others slack all the time because they are "SICK"

I get so pissed because while they are "SICK" and i am picking up their slack, they come back the next day with a nice Suntan, giggly happy and USUALLY 20 minutes late.

Most of you are young punks with no damn work ethic. Do your job, dont call in sick with some bull**** excuse, i hope every one of you lazy ***'s gets fired because their boss catches them at the mall on their day off.

Man, you need a day off

I know what you mean. We have one that keeps calling in and we have to pick up the slack. Our boss is cool though. If we ask for a day off using vacation and he knows we just need a break from work, he just lets us use our sick days so we can use vacation days on real vacations. :RockOn - not mine:

One of my co-workers got off early on friday to go to tahoe, then called in sick on monday. She's a cute blonde with a big rack and she's the only one who can get away with that bs.

I can't stand slackers like that, such bs.

I don't actually call in sick, it'd be rather pointless as I'm on-call. I tell them I'm not coming in, and to call me if they need anything.

Yes, I would say it all depends on what kind of work you do. If you take a day off means that others need to pick up your work load, I would say, don't call in sick. If you do want to call in sick, plan it with others so they can somehow take a break someday to.

In my line of work, no one takes my work load because they can't do it, LOL!! So I don't feel guilty if I call in sick. I'm in love with my work, though, so I have never called in sick. I will admit, sometimes I think I'm a workaholic.

Back when I was working a 9-5 job, these were the excuses I used...legit or not, that's between me and my boss.

My top 10 list :P

2. Doctors appt (Mine or my kids)
3. Cable/Pacbell/internet installer coming between XX hours, I have to be there
4. Garage door derailed and stuck half way...I have to be home til its fixed...can be stretched to the next day
5. Car broke down on my way to work...getting it towed to a shop.
6. Family visiting from out of town
7. Car got broken in to
8. Ate something bad, been up all night...
9. Bad allergies, been up all night

10. I just need a day off!

damn i think someone started this thread with the intention of seeing how funny/elaborate excusses can get just for FUN but someone had to ruin it with "im jimmy fly-staight" how much do you love your job to actually not miss it at all. have you ever thought about if other co-workers felt the same way you do?

anyway ive heard someone actually say "i got a rash thingy" as an excuss.

at my old job, i'd jsut tell the boss i dont feel like working today, and he'd usually be cool with it...

oh and to those using the stomach flu / food poisoning / diarrhea excuse, here's a nice touch, call from the bathroom, they can tell you're in the bathroom when they hear the echoing and more than likely wont question it.. haha

Just call as soon as you wake up so you have that hoarse voice and tell em you are not well. Works everytime. An ear ache and fever complaint will also be nice to accompany this. You can also develop migrane. That you can use repetitively since when those come on, it's impossible to ignore. I never used it though. Man period has not been used so far. Maybe later.
