no one said it was a race. I simply have time constraints, and a loaded car. I just want to be there on time, and not have any issues. If that means leaving at 11pm, then fine. And it looks like we'll have to do that if we want to be there on time, and get what we need to get done along the way.

Second option would be 46. You really DO NOT wanna do either 58 or Stockdale, tons of stoplights either way.

Worst hill is Tehachapi, it tops out at 4200 ft or so. You might have to downshift in the loaded Saturn, but that's about it...should still easily be able to maintain the speed limit (or a little more ) up the hill.
Thanks Ed,

Google earth makes the elevation numbers look somewhat challenging.

what time you wanna be in vegas?

also be very careful with 15 right before you enter vegas. i once saw a cop on top of an overpass, and within 1 mile i saw a bunch of people getting pulled over.

Regardless of the route you take: check for construction online.

Even on the 15, I was practically parked for an hour. I saw construction on a lot of highways.

It may seriously save you guys to check where and when roads will be closed or delayed.

BE sure to do all the common sense stuff: check oil, tire pressure, and make sure your coolant is topped off.
I think you're talking about this:

TRAFFIC IS SUBJECT TO LANE REDUCTIONS IN EACH DIRECTION FROM MAIN ST
/IN BARSTOW/ TO 12.5 MI SOUTH OF BAKER /AT RASOR RD/ (SAN BERNARDINO CO)
24 HRS A DAY FROM 0800 HRS MONDAY TO 0800 HRS FRIDAY THRU 1/31/07 - DUE TO
CONSTRUCTION - MOTORISTS ARE SUBJECT DELAYS OF UP TO 45 MINUTES

that way, with road construction and trying not to speed, you can make it in time, plus time to rest...

Yeah, it's starting to look that way. That basically means me packing Sunday after an AutoX, and then coming home from school on Monday around 4pm to sleep as much as I can. Then take off.

Believe it or not. We probably did our best time in Joe's old Civic. Probably 7 hours. The car had a DTM style exhasut (hey that was JDM at the time), 3 inch drop springs which rode like a washboard and for some reason, we had to drive in 14 inch black steelies and had the nice wheel and tires in the Vanagon.

Just go ask Joe about the white Maxima we tailed most of the way.

who ever rebuilt that vw motor, must've milled the heads to get more compression or something... that vanagon is pretty damn fast for a vanagon. It was easy for anyone of us to peel that van out of the parking lot.

Yeah, looks like to be safe, we'll leave earlier and simply not rush it.
