Wink Getting Drunk on Sake

Man, i just may be a full out drunk.

For years now. And i do mean "years" i have been drinking wine. Red wine to be exact. (i never truely could get into the whites) And over the years my "pallot" has become more advanced. Which is sad/good at the same time. Good because i know the characters of a fine wine. Sad because over the years bottles of wine are going from $7 (years ago) to now $15-$55 a bottle now. And it drains me completely.

But now (about a year ago) that i have turned to a Sake freak the prices have gone down. Of course over the past 20 years i have been drinking "Hot sake" either at home or out at dinner etc.. But now i'm WAY into the "chilled" sake. Filtered or un-filtered. And many of them, even the ones of quality can be bought for much less than most wines. Although to date my favorite Sake (right now) is this one called "Wandering Poet". O.M.G. is that a good one.

So is there anyone else out there that enjoys "good" sake? If so let me know what you drink.

I enjoy good sake when I drink with my In-laws. Other than that I'm not really into it too much.

I used to buy cheap, boxed sake in Tokyo's duty-free shop and gulp it all down in order to pass out on JAL and Space “A” back home.

There's supposed to be a great sake brewery in Folsom, Ca. if you're interested.

Thanks Salty.

The other day my wife and i were over at the Sho Chiku Bai brewery over there in Berkeley. They're not my favorite but they have a few that i like. I happen to be sampling there Nigori "unfiltered sake" chilled right now while i'm typing. And on the 8th when i go to the Japantown meet for sushi, i'll be drinking there "Nama Sake" made with 'organic rice'

raise your glasses!

*clink*

I love sake, I just order the house stuff served hot at my favorite sushi house.

I might start getting into it though, I've read a couple articles about high-end stuff and serving chilled, mmmm!

My fav, but not seen everywhere and pretty hard to come by is Denshu. Awesome warm, but also very delicious when cold...

I did a search and here is what it is described by:
Denshu, Junmai-shu, Aomori Prefecture

Every year, this sake tops the "op 100 warmed sake"lists in Japan. Good, solid construction with a nice rice-laden flavor. A true "mami,"that hard-to-describe deliciousness, comes out when slightly warmed.

also:

Denshu is perennially on a list of favorite sake, especially favorite O-kan(warmed sake) selections. Denshu has a proper rice flavor with a great texture to it. A very mild fruity tone to the fragrance as well. A sake-drinker's sake that grows on you quickly.

Nice thread BTW - making a "To Drink List..." much better than a "To Do"

What sake brands are made using organic rice? Is there one that has the purest ingredients?
