Yeah, they have that card at Luckys/Savemart for Shell that gives you a discount on gas. I always have to tell them "I don't want it, I don't buy gas at Shell".

I always go for 76 because I've heard tuners claim its most consistent. If its not around I go to another big brand. I avoid costco and no name stations.

Go to what ever brand of gas works best for your car. Not all cars are the same. Once you pick your brand. Stick to gas stations that are all ways busy. That will mean you will almost always be getting the freshest fuel for your car. And that is what helps knock and power.

I found least in AZ that on the dyno Costco always did the best. Because they are always refreshing their fuel. Since they move the most amount of gas.

Gas pretty much comes from the same place in the bay area. It comes down to tank time. The older the fuel it tends to drop oct. So you want a place that is always busy and always gets a delivery truck. This also helps with sediment in the tanks building up. One thing I learned riding motorcycles. Some stations I would always find dirt after filling up. And I would avoid them always after.

That is more or less true - the only difference are the additives each chain puts in before it goes to their station, so there is still a small difference. Costco buys whatever is cheapest (which could mean older gas), so you will pretty much never get the same tank of gas from them. The newer the station (or hopefully they've at least replaced their tank), the cleaner the holding tanks too. I've never had an issue with any Chevron in the bay and I have had issues with Arco and Costco. Never really had any problems with Valero/BP, Shell or 76 if there isn't a Chevron around.

I read that the stock ecu can work with ~30% E85. Is it actually beneficial to top off with E85 for the extra octane? Is there any harm?

We have a Propel in RWC, so it would actually be convenient for me to do this if it doesn't harm the car.

your welcome to all you local Sac guys who buy Chevron... I am responsible for making sure the product tests with good results before it leaves the terminal.

Check this link out... E85 fuel FAQ - NASIOC

I haven't been to the link for a while, but I remember it has some excellent information that helped me out when I converted to E85. It should answer most of your questions you have about mixing E85 with your car.

Costco is actually in the middle of a suit for gas quality issues. I think they were storing it at the wrong temperature or something.

I used to work for Chevron too. Way back in the day. I was just a jockey though.

Still a supporter of Chevron and 76 being the 2 best options.

all gas sold in CA is standardized for the most part, thanks to the ARB. and there are only a handful of producers and the rest distribute. The only real difference are the additives that measure out to 1 part per billon...
and if you guys are really that picky most bad gas comes from when they refill the station from the trucks because it kicks up all the poop/sediments.
just saying..
