Active duty as in active duty regular Army? I'm guessing reserves don't count?

I'm pretty sure you are right btw about the rank. Most of those guys nowadays are a lot older than he was. I think my dad was in the hospital on his 20th birthday for his wounds.
Once I graduate college, I will most likely enlist if there is no jobs straight away. No way I will be able to match that though.

If you enlist now, not only will you get the GI Bill AND tuition assistance to help you finish but the Soldier Sailor relief act federally limits interest rates on debt incurred before enlisting... and I think that includes student loans.

Just food for thought...
