Fuel Smell
Hey everyone!
The other day I was told there was a gas station in Sunol that had 100 Octane fuel, so I went to check it out. My tank already had about 1/4 tank left with 91 Octane in it, so I filled up my tank with about 5 gallons of 100 Octane. I noticed that later in the day when I opened up my driver door after work, the cabin was filled with fuel smell. When I drive, it's fine can't smell it because I drive with windows down. Park it at home, leave it over night, open door, there's that fuel smell again. This has just started happening AFTER I put the 100 Octane fuel in there. I'm starting to think that wasn't such a good idea..
Some people say it may be an exhaust leak (which I doubt because the fuel smell lingers in the cabin) or it could be a leak in the fuel line somewhere. I did a quick check when I got home from the wingstop meet tonight and all the hoses and lines seem properly connected. Does anyone have any idea what it may be?
I'm going to take it in to the dealership hopefully either tomorrow, sunday ,or monday and hopefully my tech friend could take a look.
Any input would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!!!

I think that's just for 02-03 models.
i had the same issue with my bugeye about 2 years ago, a few months back i got a letter from subaru about that recall. i haven't went to do the fix yet.
I had an issue with the fuel smell in cold starts in my 02 sedan. Fixed two weeks ago at the dealer.

^About the same, maybe a little better. Hard to tell, my driving varies pretty drastically week to week.

OP if that smell sticks around I'd make sure get it checked asap. Fuel leaks are no joke. Let us know what the dealer says, hopefully it's an easy fix.

SUBARU / IMPREZA 2002-2003
SUBARU / WRX 2002-2003
Manufacturer : SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC.
Component :
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINEELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Date Investigation Opened : July 2, 2009
Date Investigation Closed : December 14, 2009
Summary:
THE DESIGN OF THE FUEL LINE (METAL RAIL/RUBBER HOSE INTERFACE) IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO FUEL ODOR AND/OR SEEPAGE IN EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. OWNERS MOST OFTEN NOTICED FUEL ODOR IN THE OCCUPANT COMPARTMENT AREA DURING INITIAL COLD ENGINE START-UP. ONCE THE ENGINE IS WARMED, THE ODOR/SEEPAGE ISSUE DISSIPATES. FROM SUBARU'S DATA, ODI NOTES THAT THE INCIDENT RATES ARE HIGHER IN STATES WITH COLDER TEMPERATURES. THERE WAS ONE ALLEGATION OF A FIRE INCIDENT IN WHICH THE OWNER HAD REPORTED THAT HE NOTICED FUEL ODOR A FEW DAYS EARLIER, BUT ODI COULD NOT CONFIRM THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, SUBARU WILL REPLACE THE FUEL LINE WITH A "LONGER RUBBER HOSE SEGMENT VERSION/DESIGN" ON 5,724 MY 2002-2003 VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH SEPTEMBER 12, 2002 IN 16 STATES (AK, CO, IA, ID, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, NH, NY, SD, VT, WI & WY). IN ADDITION, SUBARU WILL EXTEND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE TO 12 YEARS/UNLIMITED MILEAGE ON VEHICLES IN THE REMAINING 34 STATES. THIS ENGINEERING ANALYSIS IS CLOSED (SEE RECALL CAMPAIGN 09V-468)
