Fuel pump Gurgle/Fuel smell after driving

I noticed this last night, when the system pressurizes by turning the key and not turning on i can hear gurgling from the fuel pump area. Also after driving i can faintly smell fuel under the car but not in the cabin or trunk at all
I can only faintly smell it on the drivers side if I put my face in the wheel well.
It happens regardless of temp.
Car starts and idles without hesitation and still runs good.

Car is completely stock.

Ive tried searching but it always had to do with something that had been recently modded.

Thanks in advance

You buy the car used? Or new?

Used. Previous owner kept meticulous record of everything he did. I've had it for over 6 months now.

Check the trunk for gas smell. Pull up the trunk carpet covering the spare tire and see if it smells of gas. Then check the fuel pump service door.

Does the car have a tune?
Most fuel vapor leaks should trigger a cel. Since the tank is pressurized.

The rear passenger side is the charcoal canaster. Check that for fuel smell as well. If you over fill your car or it splashes at the cap area fuel can get drained back down that way to.

Let me know what you come up with.

Tunk has no smell. Car is untuned as far as I know.

If it is the evap can should I do anything about it or just let it evaporate? Forgot to clarify but I only smell it on the rear driver side area

I'm not 100% on which way the fuel lines run down the car. Think its driver side But if it was a big leak/ vent. It should throw a evap code unless those codes have been shut off unside the ecu. Try driving it with the windows down. See if it gets worse. If we knew if the ecu was untouched I'd say don't worry about it unless it gets strong. It could also be the evaporated purge valve under the intake manifold. But once again it should throw a evap code. The fuel and evap purge lines run right up to where the master brake cylinder is. You can also check there for any aging hoses or fuel smell.

Check the injector area for fuel smell too.

Knowing what state the ecu is would be a huge help.

Im looking at the shop manual for the fuel system and it looks like the fuel lines go from the pump on the passenger side and then rout to the drivers side and connect to the hard lines at the side of the tank. Is there any way to get to these without taking the cover under the tank off? it looks to be too far to the side to check through the access cover on that side.

Is the gurgling truly coming from the rear of the car? It's fairly common to get that gurgle sound in the dash/floor area... the heater core/coolant cycling. I didn't notice it for a LONG time then one day I was like...WTF is that.

it's normal.

The fuel smell... could just be excess in your exhaust?

If it's truly concerning you take it to GST, Speed Element or a dealership for a diagnostic.

Its for sure coming from the back, its not a heater core sloshing. It sounds similar to bubbles in a hose being pushed through.

As far as excess from exhaust, i thought that too and i shoved my face in my tailpipe and took a whif, Wasnt from there.

Im not quite concerned enough to take it to a shop as i know evap leaks cause CELs like old.guy stated. Just trying to figure out if this has happened to someone else.

Just keep a noise out. I know having a new used car can make anyone super sensitive. Eq tunes everything and ed could check out you ecu rom file to see if its stock. I wouldn't go to a dealer till you have the ecu looked at. You might be out of warranty. But they will still flag your vin with Subaru if the ecu has been modded.

Ty for the heads up. Im still torn between going stg 2 or doing most of the suspension stuff i want done, if i go stg 2 i will be definitely going with EQ for the tuning.

It seems more noticeable when cold. But when i first noticed it i was able to turn the key, hear it, turn they key off then turn it back and hear it again but not quite as pronounced as the first time(the car was still warm at this time but ambient was 40s).

Some good reading here.
raw fuel smell 2006 STi outside - Google Search

I'd get the stage 2 done 1st. The car will run so much better. Ed can look at the ecu at the same time. And it already handles good if you have good tires on it. Get the stage 2 done, Then go in and address the other stuff as needed. You'll be a lot happier. The car/motor will be a lot happier

While I have a shell of a wrx. Let me know if you have any questions. See what I can do
