Free CEL Code Pulling in San Jose Area?

I got a CEL the other day on the way home from Mammoth (I'm 99% sure it has to do with cheap gas and high altitudes) and I want to get the code pulled. Problem is my buddy that has a reader lives 2 hours away and I'd rather not drive all the way up there. I called the Kragen on Alum Rock (near where I live) and they don't have a tester to use. Anyone know of anywhere in the area that will pull the code for free?
Thanks!
Chris

hell, find someone with an access port for your car. One of my buddies has one (same year[02-03]), we all used it to pull codes and read live boost, turns out you can do that without having to marry the ecu to the car (=

Que? I called the one near me (off Story Rd in San Jose) and they said it would be $184.73, even if I just wanted to pull one code in the parking lot haha.

Almost all Autozones I've been to will charge your credit card for the full amount of the OBD-II scanner before they give you the loaner. They'll give you a full refund when you return it. I only wish they'd enforce a due date on the loaners. When I needed one last month I had to call 3 or 4 Autozones before I found one with loaners in stock.

As a side bonus, when you "buy" the loaner, they'll stamp your Autozone reward card (or whatever it is... the thing that gives you $20 whenever you spend at least $20 per visit).

no loaner here in my town at either of the autozones, kragens, or napas. The read cel code, reset ecu, and read live boost all work on any car

the autozone by my work always has one. I go in, give them my CC, go out to the parking lot, pull the codes, and go in and get my money back.
