Formula Drift was great!

Well we saw Hubinette's Viper and Millen's GTO sweeping up a pack of Nissan drift machines, a great half-time show by the Japanese judges especially Tarzan's Viper, and a wait of over half an hour at the concession stands (unless you were smart and drove to a store during the hour break). Overall an excellent turnout and some great skills being tested, despite the heat and lack of water.

Did anyone find out who won?

The Swedish guy in the Mopar Viper won I believe. The japanese guy in the Skyline was 2nd. Pretty good event. I saw at least 10+ Sti's in the parking lot.

There were WAY too many wrxs (mostly STis, go figure) in attendance considering Mt. Hammy.

I had a feeling Hubinette was going to win in the Viper, that car is purpose built to turn sideways and what a monster it is!
I wanted the black rat-look Corolla to win cause he was really spunky against the bigger cars but alas he couldn't keep up with the 800+hp cars.
I drove my black wagon to the event and parked near the toilets (stinky!!) at the lower parking lot.

Problem w/ the Viper is that it wasn't drifting, more of a power slide and whenever he gets in trouble, he just mashes the gas to pull out of it.

^ aye. Plus its hard not to win every event when you have a $500,000 budget not to mention infrastructure to back you up

i totally agree that the viper is way too overpowered for the rest of the cars. and yes it looks like hubinette was often using the power-over technique used by mustang drivers everywhere, but i have a feeling that car wouldn't be able to rotate around the tightest turns without the handbrake.

but you gotta agree a tire smoking viper drift car is COOL

i have to say that if he can handle a car that big like that then i still think he deserves his props. i agree with what people are saying, factory backing helps and so does power (rhy millen (claimed 470HP) and hubinette (claimed 500HP) may have the most powerful cars out there) but some of those 240s are pushing between 400 and 450whp also. Rhys and Samuel are two of the oldest and most experienced drivers on the circut and both come from a rallying background which i'm sure helps. in my huble vision, i did not see hubinette ever lock up the back wheels; e.g. use the hand brake to drift.

The D1 show in LA was much better than this show . but was a good show for a US event with most all US drivers .it was damm hot there but i had a lot of waters ,redbulls ice and food at my car . My car was the silver WRX parked next to blue Civic and the Kwall.I took over 1877 pictures of the event .not all of them will make it on www.carandmodel.com only the best will .there was over 7 subies in the show and a lot more in the parking lot . good attendance for the same day as MT.Hammy

It was a good event, though i felt the crowd was um very quiet.

I got sun burned too, but i was screaming for millen to win (which no one does)

Of all the times I saw millen drive his car (GTO) , I never saw him run into a car twice! In the same event, lol. The crowd was pissed.
