The tape is kapton tape, thus the amber color. It is a low outgassing tape. This in addition to velcros and other fastening devices not available at the time is why you see tape all over the place. We still use this tape today to close out spacecraft with the blanketing you see.

Aesthetics come second to making sure you have adequate thermal insulation on the spacecraft.

Lunar Camera Tapes Were Higher Quality

That special lunar camera recorded in an odd format that was incompatible with the format used for broadcast TV. So when the footage was received on Earth back in July of 1969, it had to be converted for the live television broadcast.
