Nice, so the intercooler is legal. Even water injection is legal. Thanks aznboi. You made my day.

I still don't get it though. You have a car. You have a catalytic converter on. You pass the sniffer test. But yet you fail for keeping the environment clean because you modified the turbocharger.

your wrong..... im a smog tech, and just took the 2007 update course, you can have the biggest intercooler you want on your car, it doesnt matter, and it doesnt affect any levels of gasses that are measure out of the tailpipe, not to mention that Subaru's and EVO's only require the TSI (Two Speed Idle) Test due to the fact that they are AWD. CARB numbers dont always matter either, the important number is the E.O. (Executive Order) number.

Anyone else got any questions feel free to ask. And no I wont hot smog anyones cars!!!

Modifying your car to put in a fmic is illegal one way or another. the blow off valve? that dumps air into the atmostphere = illegal.
modifying the bumper beam i would believe that is illegal as well. i mean, there's going to be some law that you're breaking, just like removing cats. Still doesn't stop people.

i could be wrong tho. but i'm sure the moment u get popped because the officer sees the fmic, he'll ask you to open the hood, and he'll be inspecting for illegal mods, which would ultimately result in a fix it/state ref ticket regardless.

I have a question, has anyone in your course raised the question of why visual inspections are important? I'd like to know why.

look at your engine bay. In CA, dont touch anything

except some intakes are CARB legal, but some cops are asshats and will give you a ticket anyways and tell you to take it up with the judge

Alot of FMIC's you can keep the stock BoV and keep it recirculating...

From my understanding there is no law about intercoolers, and a guy I know whose relative is a smog tech, said you can't fail because of an intercooler... but I imagine you can get SENT to a smog tech because of an intercooler

the intercooler part isn't illegal from what i've read BUT in order to run a FMIC you can't run the stock airbox. so changing out the intake to one that works with the FMIC is illegal.

I believe air filters are thermostatically controlled (temp controlled hence cold air intake etc.). Which is on the first list of parts that need certification.

I'd wager money that the SPT intake will work with FMICs.

Rivers got sent to the ref a while back and asked the guy if fmic's were legal and he said that the intercooler is legal but all the piping running through the engine bay makes it illegal, iirc.

legality aside, a bright chrome thing in your front bumper will attract a lot of attention from the fuzz.
