Fixit Ticket for cracked windshield!
Thought I'd post this up since so many of us have cracked windshields.
on Sat my gf was driving on 92 in her benz. she has a 6" crack on her windshield. CHP follows her for 5 mins, she knows she gonna get pulled over so she's not even speeding or anything. CHP pulls her over and cites her for cracked windshield and no front plate (car was hit on front bumper so there is no way to even mount a front plate right now). No moving violations.. just pulled her over for 2 weak fixit tickets. i didnt even know they could cite you for a cracked windshield. but apparently they can and do.
Hell, the crack on my windshield is at least 3-4X larger than hers. And I know a lot of us have cracked windshields.. watch out for the CHP peepz!

Buncha people on here have said that to be pulled over "Da Law sez" you have to be involved in a moving violation. By that "logic" these tickets maybe don't apply. Who knows. Your story sounds like a case of....
"So, why do you think it would be difficult to be a CHP Officer?"
"Because its very hard to be a dick ALL day long".

How would they be able to pull you over for an HOV/Carpool lane violation then?

technically, it's a safety issue. just like having bald tires (control issue) or having a fuzzy dice hanging from your rear view mirror.
the safety is that the crack can POSSIBLY block your view outside.
and this probable cause to give you other tixs or possibly search your car for "illegal" items...
dont you watch COPS?

If you have a cracked windshield, you should get it fixed ASAP, period.
Safety glass doesn't work very well when already compromised.
It goes something like this:
You are doing 100mph in your cracked up ride and lose your mind for sec when you sneeze.
Suddenly you're impacting one of those nice water/sand barrel barriers next to a bridge support.
You are slowed suddenly and the airbags go off, and you think you will be ok.
The windshield, though, since already cracked, gives into 2 big pieces instead of shattering into thousands of little ones.
One of the big pieces flies inward, ripping through your inflating airbag and slices off your head, the second one flies away at 95mph and a little kid innocently eating an ice cream cone 2 blocks off the freeway gets cut in half.
Your final thought is, "Huh, it really is true what mikkyo wrote about the cracked windshield".
The way safety glass works is based on there being one nice surface without any flaws. When the whole surface is put under sharp tension or pressure, it begins to crack, and the continued pressure, or the shock of the first pressure wave forces it to crack all at once, shattering.
This is the same reason the crack in your windshield that started out as little one, crawls into a large, long one, it is designed to do that, but is supposed to happen all at once, when you are crashing.
Now if you have a little chip or ding that doesn't grow, ok no biggie, it won't turn into a giant windshield blade of death most likely, but it still could.
So if you care about yourself and your loved ones, get the windshield fixed, get better than OEM glass, and be content in your safety.
I certainly don't want to read about one of our locals biffin' it and then bleeding to death just cause they didn't fix their windshield.
Granted, not everyone is all into the safety, mushy, caring thing, so here are some other really good reasons..
You can't race at the track with a cracked windshield - no fun for you.
There's no bling bling in cracked up beater ride, yo!
A cop loves the excuse of pulling you over with a safety violation just so he can write you up for all the mod violations you have committed.

Just sit on the curb suffering and begging (since you can't work or do much else) till you save up enough funds to go to the doctor and get it set, get medicated, a cast and crutches?
Nah, you go to the hospital ASAP, insurance or no.
Speaking of insurance, if you have little money, add the glass break coverage to your insurance with no deductible or a $50 one.
It won't cost more than a few bucks more and you won't have to worry about the cost.
