Yeah, the other thing is, if you chain breaks... no brakes.

A lot better than "face to ground" for sure. Stay rubber-side down out there!

Unless you need to stop or something. Mixin' it up in traffic, you better have brakes.

So I finally did it, I pulled apart my roadie and am swapping over to single speed. Can someone recommend a good gear combo? Is 48T up front a little too aggressive? I am lining up components as well as trying to get this 8spd hub working on my wife's bike. Anyway, can't wait to take my bike for a spin. Just figuring out what components to order at the moment...

I think 46/17 is the popular ratio. You can go 48, just compensate on the cog.

The ratio depends on where you mainly ride, and how strong your legs are.

For example, I ride in San Jose where it is mostly flat. With my current 46/17 ratio, I would be spinning out on the flats. My old 48/17 ratio was perfect. Hills are a different story.

You will not go wrong with 46/17 though.

Any one want to buy a wheelset? Velocity deep vs laced to dura ace hubs. All black! Figured I just put a post in here. Instead of the classifieds, cause there's very few fixed riders.

All bikes are welcome, but 99% are fixed.
