Hey nice car man, as for the plugs get NGK's either the coppers or IX Iridiums which perform slightly better.
EDIT: It will good if you can take care of all this stuff right off the bat...
OEM oil filter
Mobil 1 synthetic
STP fuel system cleaner
NGK plugs
K&N filter
Tire pressure
Additionally if you start wanting to make more power, in combination with the engine/exhaust you could upgrade your torque converter. I've heard good things how this helps to release more through the 4EAT. I used to have a '00 Legacy w/ 4EAT and I always felt like it was holding back too much on the power delivery.
EDIT: It will good if you can take care of all this stuff right off the bat...

All the "go fast" mods will have to wait... I need to start saving again! But a torque converter is definitely on the top of the list.
